On December 10, 2020, in Bishkek, as part of the ongoing work to promote economic diplomacy, at the initiative of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Agency for the Protection and Promotion of Investments of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Kyrgyz-Pakistani business forum "Rethinking Silk Road: Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan in the era of interconnectedness.
The purpose of this forum is to attract Pakistani investors, develop bilateral trade and tourism, exchange experiences on combating COVID-19 and conduct B2B meetings between representatives of the business community of the two countries.
On the Kyrgyz side, the business forum was opened by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan E. Beishembiev, who noted the need and timeliness to intensify the Kyrgyz-Pakistani trade and economic relations, taking into account the negative consequences of COVID-19 in the global economy. On the Pakistani side, the Executive Director of the Lahore Center for Peace Studies delivered a welcoming speech. During the event, the welcoming speech of the Speaker of the Senate of Pakistan M.S. Sanjrani was also demonstrated via videoconferencing.
A large number of business representatives from Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan took part in the forum. The heads of the relevant ministries and departments of the Kyrgyz Republic made presentations. In particular, the Director of the Agency for the Protection and Attraction of Investments of the Kyrgyz Republic D. Akmatov, Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Beishenaliev, Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic T. Toktogaziev, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism at the ICIT made a substantial presentation in English KR K. Kenzhematov, who presented investment and promising areas in priority sectors of the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic. Also, during the forum, a panel discussion was organized, during which the participants of the event were able to get answers to their questions.
At the end of the event, thematic platforms (education, medicine, information technology, agriculture, textiles and trade) were presented to representatives of the business community of the two countries in order to establish business contacts. As a result of the forum, it is expected that bilateral contracts will be concluded between representatives of the business circles of the two countries for the further implementation of joint projects in these sectors of the economy in the Kyrgyz Republic. The event was attended by about 90 participants from the Kyrgyz side and 55 participants from the Pakistani side, including several members of the Senate of Pakistan.
Within the framework of this event, it is also planned to hold a round table with the participation of experts from the two countries, in the field of education and medicine, to exchange experience in the fight against COVID-19.
