In a significant stride towards social inclusion, the University of Haripur is delighted to announce the successful implementation of the project titled "Vocational Training and Access to Decent Work for Women Domestic Workers, Transgender Individuals, and Persons with Disabilities: Reflections on Gender, Labor, and Equality for Social Inclusion of Disadvantaged Groups of Hazara Division."
Under the capable supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdul Majid (Principal Investigator) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yasir (Sub-awardee), the project aimed to address the fundamental rights of marginalized communities, including transgender individuals, women domestic workers, and persons with disabilities. This initiative aligns with the United Nations' recognition of access to decent work as a fundamental human right. The project team, known as LCF-55, meticulously studied the challenges faced by these groups in accessing decent work, and extensive training and psychological counseling sessions were designed and implemented across the Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra districts to equip them with the necessary skills.
The initiative comprised sensitization workshops and training sessions for Women Domestic Workers (WDWs) to raise awareness about their rights and the significance of decent work. Simultaneously, transgender individuals and persons with disabilities underwent technical skills training to enhance their employability. Following the successful completion of the training phase, the LCF-55 project team provided direct support to participants, assisting them in establishing their businesses. The tangible impact of the project is evident through the distribution of 30 Handicraft DIY Kits, 30 Decoration DIY Kits, 30 Sewing Machines, and 13 Makeup Kits. Additionally, 103 participants received guidance and support in establishing micro-enterprises, contributing not only to their economic upliftment but also fostering a sense of self-sufficiency and empowerment.
The LCF-55 team expresses deep gratitude for the unwavering support from HEC-PAKISTAN, The University of Haripur, and Hazara University throughout the project. The success achieved is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the LCF-55 team and the steadfast support from individuals and institutes committed to bringing about social change. Special acknowledgment goes to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shafeeq Ur Rehman of the University of Haripur for his exceptional support, visionary leadership, and insightful contributions. Prof. Dr. Shafeeq Ur Rehman's commitment played a pivotal role in the success of the project, and his dedication to academic excellence and global collaboration has left an indelible mark on the project's achievements.
The LCF-55 team extends heartfelt thanks to Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, Higher Education Commission Pakistan, for gracing the occasion as the chief guest. His presence and active participation in distributing kits among the participants added significance to the event, highlighting the HEC's commitment to the empowerment of marginalized communities.
