*Prof Dr Jan Mohammed Memon to continue as the Chancellor of the University of Modern Sciences, Tando Muhammad Khan - Honourable Sindh High Court. Suspends notification of Dr Muhammad Iqbal as Chancellor and refrains others from causing any interference.*
Rabbi Zidni Ilma - (The Qur'an 20:114)
“My lord, increase me in my knowledge"
Indus Medical College & Hospital and University of Modern Sciences were established under the leadership of Prof Dr Jan Mohammad Memon for provision of quality education and healthcare in a suburban area of Sindh. He previously established the first public sector medical university LUMHS in Pakistan. Originally belonging to Tando Muhammad Khan, he aspired to return to the region by uplifting healthcare and educational standards with support of a group of like minded professionals.
It is a matter of pride that the University of Modern Sciences was recently accredited by the HEC as the first private sector university of rural Sindh under his leadership as the Chancellor. He remains grateful to the support he has received throughout from various regulatory bodies, federal and provincial governments, local administration, faculty members, staff, students and all other stakeholders.
Regrettably, certain elements with malicious intentions have in the last few days tried to implant themselves in the office of the Chancellor illegally through manipulation and violation of relevant rules and regulations. The Honourable High Court of Sindh has taken notice of the acts committed and passed an order to suspend the illegal notification of Dr Muhammad Iqbal as Chancellor. The Honourable High Court has also restrained others from causing any interference in performance of duties by Prof Dr Jan Mohammad Memon as the Chancellor.
The University of Modern Sciences Act 2017 passed by the Sindh Assembly clearly stipulates the Chancellor to be a person of eminence, known for his service to society, contribution to the field of knowledge and appreciated for high morals and high intellectual calibre. The Honourable High Court in its order includes reference to Professor Dr Jan Mohammad Memon as one of the foremost leading healthcare professionals and educationists in the country.
It is therefore unfortunate that certain vested interests have tried to take unfair advantage of the situation. Access to quality education and healthcare are fundamental rights and that is what esteemed individuals like Prof Dr Jan Mohammad Memon have aspired to achieve throughout their lives. It is important that these fundamental rights are protected rather than submitting to short term profit making and nefarious designs. Such institutions, especially in the rural areas, are an asset and should be safeguarded and protected at all times. Justice shall be served, Insha Allah.
May Allah, the Almighty, guide the misguided. Ameen.
