𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐈’𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐫 15-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐔𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧 - a boy who has been fighting for his life every single month for the past 9 months.
He suffers from 𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚 , a condition where his bone marrow fails to produce enough blood cells to survive.
Multiple admissions every month, endless transfusions, gum bleeds, nose bleeds, blood in urine and yet, this brave child has kept fighting. A few days ago, his condition deteriorated drastically; he fell unconscious, developed seizures, high-grade fever and his GCS dropped to 5/15 with dilated non-reactive pupils for 48 hours due to a suspected Intracranial Bleed/ haemorrhage.
But by the grace of Almighty and relentless transfusion support, he opened his eyes again today.
This is our small but precious window to save his life.
Usman’s only cure is a 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐧𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭. His family cannot afford the cost in a private hospital as they’re extremely poor, and in the government sector his case has been stalled as his HLA typing has been pending for more than 5 months at Gambat, with no urgency shown..
