๐ฌ๐ง UKVI Introduces a New RAG Rating System for Educational Institutions.
Effective 1 June 2026, UKVI has introduced a new RAG (Red, Amber, Green) Rating System for student sponsors, marking a significant shift in the UK compliance framework for international education. The new system aims to strengthen accountability, enhance transparency, and ensure higher standards among universities and colleges recruiting international students.
๐จโ๐ปUnderstanding the Ratings:
๐ข Green โ Strong compliance, positive student outcomes, and effective international student recruitment practices.
๐ Amber โ Increased monitoring and additional compliance checks, including greater scrutiny before issuing Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
๐ด Red โ Significant compliance concerns that may lead to restrictions on international student recruitment and potential risks to an institutionโs sponsor licence.
๐จโ๐ปKey Compliance Thresholds:
๐Student visa refusal rates: Must remain below 5%
๐Student enrolment rates: Must be 95% or higher
๐Course completion rates Minimum 85%, increasing to 90% from June 2027
