GIHD’s Institute of Public Health Nursing and Midwifery celebrated International Midwifery Day 2026 at Rural Health Centre Mandra under the theme “One Million More Midwives.”

The celebration honored the vital role of midwives and highlighted the Institute’s contribution to developing trained CMWs and LHVs who are serving communities and supporting better health outcomes for mothers and newborns.

In partnership with the District Health Department Rawalpindi District Health Authority Rawalpindi , GIHD-IPHN&M continues to support community-based health initiatives, including its contribution to the Government of Punjab’s Community Health Inspector Initiative.

From student poster presentations and awareness activities to awards and an awareness walk, the event reflected one clear message:

Investing in trained midwives means investing in healthier mothers, safer newborns, and stronger communities

A fully funded, 12-month opportunity for emerging leaders in child and adolescent mental health from Pakistan, Indonesia, and Colombia.

Fellows will receive structured training, hands-on research experience, mentorship, networking opportunities, and support for publications, grant writing, and global collaboration.

🇵🇰 Pakistan Marks World Mental Health Day 2025 | Focus: Mental Health in Emergencies

The Global Institute of Human Development (GIHD), Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), in collaboration with MoNHSR&C, WHO, and UNICEF, commemorated World Mental Health Day 2025 under the global theme:

🌍 “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”

🎙️ Honored by the presence of H.E. Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, Minister of State for Health, who highlighted Pakistan’s leadership in integrating Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) into Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and emergency preparedness systems.

🎓 The event also celebrated General Practitioners who completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health and Research for UHC, integrated within the Diploma in Family Medicine.

👥 Distinguished speakers included senior officials and global mental health leaders from STMU, Al-Khidmat Health Foundation, KEMU, RMU, WHO & UNICEF.
