| Dr. Seemab Latif | International Women's Day

Dr. Seemab Latif started her higher education at Fatima Jinnah Women University and completed MS from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). After MS, she went on to do her Ph.D. studies at the University of Manchester, UK. Her area of research was Artificial Intelligence, and her thesis was on auto-marking of essay type questions using Natural Language Processing and Generation. Dr. Seemab’s research was covered by BBC radio shows and television and it was deployed in more than 10 universities in the UK by an EdTech Firm.

After completing her Ph.D., she returned to Pakistan and joined NUST as Assistant Professor in 2010. Apart from teaching, the researcher inside her steered her focus towards research on the role of Artificial Intelligence in special education. She thought that AI can help in improving the life of differently-abled children. In 2016, Dr. Seemab realized that her published research is usually lost in conferences and journals. Though she was getting a lot of credit for her research but the impact on society was far from being visible. With the aim to impact special children, she started thinking about designing and developing products and solutions with AI as the core ingredient.

As it turned out, dreaming about product development is far easier task than doing it in actual life. With so many doubts and having a family of her own, the idea to be involved with a startup seemed like a summit to climb. Finally, in 2017, Dr. Seemab started a startup with the name of AAWAZ that aims to provide autistic kids with intelligent software for their language learning and communication. Their North Star is to provide these kids with enough capabilities that they can attend a normal school and have a chance towards an impactful and happy life.

She was awarded the University Best Innovator Award for the year 2019 for her services in the field of Science and Technology and the School Best Teacher Award for year 2015-16. She has published more than 53 Journal and Conference Research papers, authored a book chapter, and has 7 IPs on her credit.

Adnan was featured by magazine as 30 under 30 in 2018 and has won several awards including P@SHA ICT Awards and Pakistan Startup Cup. He holds an MBA from Karachi School of business (KSBL) and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He also sits on the board of two companies and is a member of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Commerce and Industry. Adnan is an enthusiast when it comes to Data & Analytics and User Experience.

Yaruq Nadeem is Manager Innovation at NSTP. He is an Economics graduate from Lahore University of Management Sciences and holds a Master's degree in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Management from Imperial College London.

Moreover, he has designed and executed the Performance Evaluation Mechanism for NSTP which measures the Park's contribution to the nation's economy. Jad Wahab is a Tech lead at nChain building blockchain products and services such as Kensei and numerous blockchain infrastructure projects. He has 4+ years of professional blockchain experience along with an MSc from UCL in information security and applied cryptography

Maria Vovchok is an experienced and passionate tech journalist with a track record of conducting research and interviews in the blockchain space while working with CryptoCoin.

Alessio Pagani holds a PhD in Information Technology from Politecnico di Milano. During his graduate years, he also developed the business aspect of his research interests, cofounding one of the first Italian startups involved in the design of blockchain solutions. His scientific activity focuses on the emerging dynamics of the Bitcoin network and on industrial applications of blockchain technologies, including IoT, data management, and micropayments.

Greg Hall is an experienced business journalist currently serving as Head of Content at Bitcoin Association. He has contributed to and edited for a number of international and national publications, and has professional experience in the legal and business consulting sectors. We are delighted to announce the project "Screen Pakistan" by Dr Aftab Ahmad Chattha, Ph.D. and Dr Kubra Aftab has secured 3rd position in the National Hepatitis C Hackathon, which was organized by National Incubation Center (Islamabad) in collaboration with Abbot Ferozsons and a number of other key partners.

Screen Pakistan is a project that is part of NSTP based startup, Chattha Bio Care. The startup has developed a prototype of Rapid Hepatitis C diagnostic test which is affordable, specific, sensitive, environmental friendly, and requires no specific equipment to run the test, which means that the test can be done at the point of care (POC). The is a paper-based, rapid diagnostic test based on immunoassay.

Further trials are in progress to launch the test in the market which will change the way Hepatitis C is diagnosed in Pakistan.

The Transaction Advisory Services agreement between NUST and the multinational consortium led by iConsult, will augment NUST’s plans to develop and expand NSTP by constructing eight towers on its H-12 campus.
