Media Sciences Students Cover Canada National Film Day at PNCA Islamabad
Canada National Film Day 2026 was celebrated on 15 May 2026 at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), Islamabad, bringing together young participants, educators, diplomats, media representatives, and students for a meaningful cultural and cinematic experience.
The event highlighted the power of film as a medium of storytelling, cultural exchange, creativity, and social connection.
The occasion was graced by the presence of the Canadian Ambassador, whose participation added diplomatic significance and warmth to the event. The Ambassador addressed the children, appreciated their enthusiasm, and encouraged them to engage with creative expression, learning, and cross-cultural understanding.
His interaction with the children created an inspiring environment and reflected the spirit of friendship, inclusion, and cultural cooperation between Canada and Pakistan.
Students of the Department of Media Sciences, SZABIST University Islamabad, from different semesters attended the event as part of their academic and practical media exposure. They were accompanied by their teachers Mrs. Asma Javed and Miss Abeera, who guided and supervised the students throughout the activity, helping them connect the event with classroom learning and professional media practice.
Since media coverage was an important dimension of the event, the students had the opportunity to observe how cultural events, diplomatic engagements, and children-focused activities are documented and presented for public and institutional audiences.
For Media Sciences students, the event served as a valuable learning experience beyond the classroom. It enabled them to connect their subject knowledge with practical aspects of media production, event reporting, visual storytelling, cultural communication, audience engagement, and responsible coverage. Students from different subject areas were able to understand how cinema can be used not only for entertainment but also for education, awareness, cultural representation, and international dialogue.
The celebration of Canada National Film Day at PNCA also offered students an opportunity to witness how film festivals and cultural screenings contribute to public diplomacy and intercultural understanding. The event encouraged students to reflect on the role of media in representing diverse voices, promoting creative industries, and building bridges between communities.
Such experiential learning opportunities reflect the Department of Media Sciencesβ commitment to learning beyond the classroom and to preparing students as responsible, observant, and professionally aware media practitioners.
The participation of students from different semesters added diversity to the learning experience and strengthened their understanding of media as a powerful platform for culture, communication.
