SZABMU Signs MoU with SZABIST Islamabad

Islamabad, August 17, 2026: Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SZABIST Islamabad Campus to strengthen collaboration in health research, artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, capacity building, and interdisciplinary research.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor SZABMU, and Mr. Khusro Pervaiz Khan, Head of Campus, SZABIST-Islamabad.

The partnership aims to promote joint research initiatives, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and innovative solutions at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor SZABMU, and Prof. Dr. Syed Tanseer Asghar, Registrar SZABMU, graced the occasion with their presence and addressed the gathering. In their speeches, they highlighted the significance of Independence Day and emphasized the values of national unity, dedication, integrity, and service to the country.
The University leadership also acknowledged and appreciated the valuable contributions, dedication, and hard work of all departments of SZABMU, recognizing their continued efforts towards the Universityโ€™s progress, institutional development, and excellence.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, faculty members, and staff, including Prof. Dr. Mohsin Shahzad, Dr. Khalid Niaz, Dr. Syeda Kiran Riaz, Abdul Qudus, Usman Majeed, Tahir Mehmood, Ch. Rohail Mehdi, Aamir Masood Khan, Muhammad Usman, Ammar Ahmed, Zeeshan Ali Sultan, Hina Rafique Butt, Dr. Syed Majid Khalil, Dr. Bushra Gul, Dr. Hadia Anjum, Dr. Bushra Nawaz, Dr. Waleed Bin Wahid, Shahbaz Ahmed Khan, Mubashar ul Hassan, Hassan Ashraf, Waqas Bin Wahid, Dr. Zafar, Dr. Ghazanfar Gul and other officers, faculty members, and staff.

A Significant Milestone in MHPE at SZABMU
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice-Chancellor, SZABMU, the Examination Department, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Education, successfully completed two major assessments of the MHPE program.
The first MHPE batch successfully completed its Thesis Defense, with all 7 students declared successful. The defense was evaluated by distinguished examiners Prof. Junaid Sarfraz, Rector, Health Services Academy; Prof. Raheela Yasmin, Dean of Medical Education, Riphah International University; and Prof. Fahad Azam, HoD Pharmacology, Shifa College of Medicine. Three senior faculty members also participated as observers, further strengthening the academic rigor and transparency of the assessment.
Meanwhile, MHPE Batch-2 successfully completed its Objective Structured Teaching Examination (OSTE) on 10th August 2026, with 14 external examiners ensuring objective, standardized, and transparent assessment.
These achievements reflect SZABMUโ€™s commitment to academic excellence, quality, transparency, and the advancement of Health Professions Education.

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) conducted a workshop on the Digital Examination Management System for its affiliated institutes as part of the vision of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq to digitalize and strengthen the Universityโ€™s examination system.

The workshop was held under the supervision of Controller of Examinations Dr. Afsheen Mansoor, with compliance oversight by Registrar Dr. Tanseer Asghar. Principals of all affiliated institutes participated in the session and were briefed on the implementation of the digital examination process.

From this year (2026), SZABMU will conduct undergraduate and postgraduate examinations of all constituent and affiliated institutions through the Digital Examination Management System, marking a significant milestone in the Universityโ€™s transition towards a transparent, efficient, and technology-driven examination framework.

FEDERAL MEDICAL COLLEGE (FMC) ORGANIZED AN INTERACTIVE SESSION ON โ€œMENTORSHIP SKILLS FOR FACULTY DEVELOPMENT.

PROF. DR. JUNAID SARFARAZ KHAN LEADS INSIGHTFUL SESSION, GUIDES FACULTY ON EFFECTIVE MENTORSHIP.

The Mentorship Committee 2026, Federal Medical College (FMC), Islamabad, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Shemaila Saleem, Principal, Federal Medical College, successfully organized an interactive faculty development session on "Mentorship Skills" on 29th June 2026 at Federal Medical College (FMC), Islamabad.

The session was delivered by Prof. Dr. Junaid Sarfraz Khan, Rector, Director Academic, Professor of Medical Education, Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon, and Dean, School of Health Professionals' Education Research & Entrepreneurship, who shared valuable insights into the principles and best practices of effective mentorship. Drawing upon his extensive academic and professional experience, he guided faculty members on building meaningful mentorโ€“mentee relationships, fostering professional growth, enhancing academic leadership, and promoting a culture of continuous learning within medical education.

The workshop was organized by Dr. Sanaila Gul Sana, Chairperson, Mentorship Committee/ Assistant Professor, whose continued efforts reflect the committee's commitment to promoting structured mentorship across the institution.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Shemaila Saleem, Principal, Federal Medical College, appreciated the initiative of the Mentorship Committee and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to advancing academic excellence through faculty empowerment, leadership development, and evidence-based mentoring practices.
