Essay Writing and Debate Competition 2026 (21 May,2026) was organised under the leadership of Prof.Dr.Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor and the supervision of Registrar SZABMU, Dr. Syed Tanseer Asghar through the dedicated efforts of the Faculty members and organizing team.
Students from various constituent colleges actively participated in the event showcasing their critical thinking, communication skills and academic creativity on the themes “Social Media: Harmful or Beneficial for Youth” and “Mental Health Challenges Among Students and Ways to Address Them.” The competition provided a valuable platform for healthy intellectual discourse and reflected the university’s commitment to promoting academic and co-curricular excellence among students.

SZABMU Observes Bunyan-un-Marsoos Day with National Pride, Gratitude, and Tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces

Nations are built not merely by bricks and mortar, but by sacrifice, unity, and unwavering patriotism.

In a remarkable display of national spirit, patriotism, and solidarity, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad, commemorated Bunyan-un-Marsoos Day with great enthusiasm and reverence at its campus. The event brought together faculty members, students, university leadership, and administrative officials to honor the unmatched sacrifices, courage, and professional excellence of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and martyrs.

The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University. Distinguished participants included Dr. Syed Tanseer Asghar, Registrar; Dr Afsheen Mansoor, Controller of Examination; Prof. Bilal , Principal School of Dentistry (SoD); Principal DPT College; Prof Rana Imran Sikandar, Dean Medicine & Executive Director PIMS; Prof. Ayesha Ishani, Dean Nursing; Prof. Naheed Fatima, Dean Surgery, senior faculty members, heads of departments, administrative officers, students, and staff.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem, and the ISPR movie is creating an atmosphere filled with pride, emotion, and love for the homeland.

On the special instructions of the Vice Chancellor, commemorative programs and Youm-e-Tashakar activities were also organized at the Federal Medical and Dental College (FMDC), School of Dentistry (SoD), and DPT College. Students passionately delivered speeches highlighting the bravery, discipline, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, while faculty members paid heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who continue to safeguard the sovereignty and dignity of the nation. The enthusiasm of the students reflected the spirit that “Pakistan’s strength lies in the unity of its people and the courage of its defenders.”

Various activities and tribute sessions were held across the university campus to honor the martyrs and armed forces personnel who rendered unparalleled sacrifices for the defense, peace, and security of Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq stated that Bunyan-un-Marsoos Day symbolizes the spirit of resilience, discipline, unity, and national harmony that strengthens Pakistan during difficult times. He remarked that the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs are written in golden words in the history of the nation and will continue to inspire generations to come.

The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged the exceptional professionalism, commitment, and unwavering dedication of the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy in defending the sovereignty, integrity, and stability of the country.

Remembering the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq, Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq stated that their courage and supreme sacrifices are a beacon of inspiration for the nation. He emphasized that educational institutions bear the collective responsibility of nurturing patriotism, discipline, national unity, and awareness among the youth regarding the sacrifices rendered for the homeland.

He further reiterated that SZABMU remains committed to producing not only highly competent healthcare professionals but also responsible, compassionate, and patriotic citizens devoted to the service of Pakistan and humanity.

"A nation that honors its martyrs and defenders never weakens, because its foundations are built on sacrifice and faith."

The event concluded with special prayers for the peace, prosperity, progress, and security of Pakistan, as well as for the eternal peace of the martyrs who laid down their lives in defense of the motherland.

SZABMU Pre-Conference Workshop | IBBC 2026

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad, successfully organized a pre-conference workshop titled “Teaching Through Problems: A Workshop on PBL Design and Assessment in Medicine with Incorporation of Al.”
The workshop was held ahead of the 3rd International Brain and Biomedicines Conference (IBBC 2026) and focused on modern Problem-Based Learning (PBL), student assessment methods, and the role of Artificial Intelligence in medical education.
Prof. Dr. Shabana Ali attended as Distinguished Guest Speaker, while Dr. Afsheen Mansoor and Dr. Fouzia Sultana facilitated the sessions.
Faculty members, students, and healthcare professionals actively participated in interactive discussions and collaborative learning activities.

*Islamabad: The fourth convocation of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) was held on Saturday at the Jinnah Convention Centre, where over 2,000 students, along with their families, attended the ceremony in a dignified and celebratory atmosphere.*

Approximately 800 graduates were awarded degrees across various disciplines, including 140 postgraduate students (PhD, MPhil, MDS, MS, MD, and Basic Medical Sciences), 400 MBBS graduates, 100 BDS graduates, and 150 graduates from DPT, Allied Health Sciences, and Nursing programmes. Medals were also conferred upon high-achieving students in recognition of their academic excellence.

Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf attended the ceremony as the nominee of the Chancellor, Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan, and distributed degrees and gold medals among the distinction holders.

Addressing the graduates, Mr. Ashraf stated that young doctors represent the future of Pakistan’s healthcare system and emphasized that research, competence, and integrity are the fundamental pillars of success in medical education. He highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern medical education and urged graduates to embrace innovation and lifelong learning.

He appreciated the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, noting that the university is achieving significant milestones under his stewardship. “Graduates today are not merely receiving degrees; they are assuming a national responsibility,” he remarked, adding that doctors serve as ambassadors of humanity, ethics, and service in society.

In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq stated that SZABMU, as a federal government medical university, has evolved into a key institution for medical education and research over the past decade. He reiterated the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and impactful research, emphasizing the need for continuous advancement in the health sector to address emerging national and global challenges.

Mr. Ashraf further assured full support for allocating land and establishing a purpose-built campus for the university, expressing confidence that SZABMU would soon emerge as one of the leading medical universities in the country.

The oath was administered to the graduating students by Dr. Afsheen Masnoor, Controller of Examinations, marking their formal transition into professional life.
