The Smart Technologies and Applied Intelligence Research (STAIR) Lab, FAST School of Engineering, successfully organized the International Workshop on Communication and Emerging Technologies under the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme at the FAST-NUCES Islamabad Campus on August 21, 2026.
The event was honored by the presence of H.E. Dr. Irfan Neziroğlu, Ambassador of Türkiye to Pakistan, as the Chief Guest. We were also privileged to welcome Ambassador Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director, COMSATS, and Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary, Director General, COMSTECH, along with Prof. Aftab Ahmad Maroof, Rector of FAST-NUCES, and Prof. Waseem Shahzad, Campus Director.
The workshop commenced with welcome remarks and a technical overview by Prof. Muhammad Tariq, Director, STAIR Lab, who highlighted the significance of emerging technologies and their role in shaping the future of secure and intelligent systems. He also presented the key milestones and achievements of the ongoing NATO SPS-funded Secure-ISAC project, in which he serves as the Partner Country Project Director (PPD).
The workshop featured insightful sessions by distinguished academics and technology experts, including Prof. Hüseyin Arslan (NPD), Prof. Orkun Hasekioğlu (Advisor to the President, TÜBİTAK), Prof. Yasar Ayaz (Chairman, NCAI, NUST), and Dr. Muhammad Sohaib Solaja (Gebze Technical University). The speakers shared valuable insights into wireless communications, artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, robotics, cybersecurity, and other next-generation technologies.

The event provided a valuable platform for strengthening international academic collaboration, fostering knowledge exchange, and advancing research and innovation in emerging technologies.
