International Workshop on Solar Radiation Modification Research Held at COMSATS University Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, August 11, 2026: A one-day international workshop titled “Dissemination of SRM Research Findings and Sensitization of Policymakers in Pakistan” was held at COMSATS University Islamabad, bringing together researchers, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to discuss emerging research and policy considerations surrounding Solar Radiation Modification (SRM).

The workshop provided a platform for sharing research findings on SRM and fostering informed dialogue on its potential opportunities, challenges, risks, governance, and implications for Pakistan and the wider region.

Rector COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, graced the event as the Chief Guest and also addressed the participants. In his remarks, the Rector emphasized the importance of evidence-based scientific research and informed policymaking in addressing complex global challenges such as climate change. He highlighted the significance of creating greater awareness among policymakers and relevant stakeholders about emerging climate-related technologies and their broader implications.

The workshop featured discussions on the latest SRM research, with experts highlighting the need for continued scientific investigation, responsible deliberation, transparency, and inclusive engagement before any policy decisions are considered.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering, Directorate of Malaria Control, and Degrees Initiative, reflecting a growing interest in strengthening research, dialogue, and policymaker awareness on solar geoengineering in Pakistan.

The workshop concluded with an emphasis on continued collaboration among academia, government institutions, researchers, and international partners to promote informed and responsible discussions on SRM research and governance.

COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad Campus has launched the "Training on 6Cs for Faculty" as part of the worthy Rector's visionary 6Cs Framework. Organized by the Department of Computer Science, the training program is being held from 1st July to 21st July 2026. The initiative brings together 434 faculty members from various academic departments to strengthen their expertise in emerging technologies and enhance their professional skills through hands-on learning and knowledge sharing.

The program includes four specialized training tracks delivered by experienced faculty members. Dr. Farhana Jabeen is leading the Cyber Security sessions, while Mr. Qasim Malik and Mr. Rashid Mukhtar are conducting sessions on Cloud Computing. The Coding module is being facilitated by Mr. Muzaffar Iqbal and Mr. Rizwan Rashid, whereas Dr. Usman Yaseen and Dr. Tehseen Zia are delivering the Co-Intelligence sessions.

Through this initiative, COMSATS University Islamabad is providing a collaborative learning platform where faculty members can explore current technological advancements, exchange ideas, and develop practical competencies that support innovation in teaching, research, and academic leadership. The Department of Computer Science at COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad Campus successfully conducted a two-week intensive hands-on training program from July 6 to July 17, 2026, bringing together faculty members to explore emerging technologies and strengthen their practical technical skills. Designed to promote continuous learning, the program covered four key areas: DevOps, Mobile Application Development, Machine Learning, and Full-Stack Web Development.

The Full-Stack Web Development track offered participants an in-depth learning experience, covering modern front-end frameworks, back-end development with Python/FastAPI and Node.js/Express, web security, real-time and scalable application development, Next.js, software architecture, AI-assisted development, and cloud deployment. Rather than focusing solely on theory, the sessions emphasized practical implementation through hands-on exercises and real-world development scenarios, allowing participants to gain experience with tools and technologies widely used in today's software industry.

The training was delivered by faculty members with expertise in their respective domains. Mr. Qasim Malik conducted the DevOps sessions, while Ms. Qanetah Ahmed led the Mobile Application Development track. Dr. Usman Yaseen, Mr. Umar Nauman facilitated the Machine Learning module. The Full-Stack Web Development sessions were jointly conducted by Mr. Amir Shabbir Paré, Mr. Rashid Mukhtar, Ms. Sadia Maqbool, and Ms. Najla Raza, who guided participants through both the theoretical foundations and practical aspects of modern web application development.

This training program reflects the Department of Computer Science's ongoing efforts to invest in faculty development and create opportunities for lifelong learning. By exposing faculty members to contemporary technologies and industry practices, the department continues to support excellence in teaching, research, and innovation while preparing educators to meet the evolving demands of computing and digital transformation.
