International Workshop on Solar Radiation Modification Research Held at COMSATS University Islamabad
ISLAMABAD, August 11, 2026: A one-day international workshop titled βDissemination of SRM Research Findings and Sensitization of Policymakers in Pakistanβ was held at COMSATS University Islamabad, bringing together researchers, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to discuss emerging research and policy considerations surrounding Solar Radiation Modification (SRM).
The workshop provided a platform for sharing research findings on SRM and fostering informed dialogue on its potential opportunities, challenges, risks, governance, and implications for Pakistan and the wider region.
Rector COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, graced the event as the Chief Guest and also addressed the participants. In his remarks, the Rector emphasized the importance of evidence-based scientific research and informed policymaking in addressing complex global challenges such as climate change. He highlighted the significance of creating greater awareness among policymakers and relevant stakeholders about emerging climate-related technologies and their broader implications.
The workshop featured discussions on the latest SRM research, with experts highlighting the need for continued scientific investigation, responsible deliberation, transparency, and inclusive engagement before any policy decisions are considered.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Alliance for Just Deliberation on Solar Geoengineering, Directorate of Malaria Control, and Degrees Initiative, reflecting a growing interest in strengthening research, dialogue, and policymaker awareness on solar geoengineering in Pakistan.
The workshop concluded with an emphasis on continued collaboration among academia, government institutions, researchers, and international partners to promote informed and responsible discussions on SRM research and governance.
