MS Thesis Proposal Defense Session

The Department of Media Studies successfully conducted the MS Thesis Proposal Defense Session, bringing together faculty members and scholars for insightful academic discussions and constructive feedback.

The session was attended by *Prof. Dr. Shabir Hussain (HoD)*, *Dr. Arif ur Rehman (Director Research)*, *Dr. Mohsin Hassan Khan*, *Dr. Tehmina Ashfaq Qazi*, *Dr. Tabinda Sadiq*, *Dr. Hayam Qayyoum*, *Dr. Qamar Abbas*, *Dr. Abid Ali Butt*, *Dr. Abdul Basit* along with scholars.

The event provided a valuable platform for scholars to present their research proposals, receive expert guidance, and further strengthen their research endeavors.

Pleased to share that Dr. Shabbir Hussain, Head of Department, Media Studies, Bahria Humanities and Social Sciences School, and Dr. Farrukh Shahzad, Dean, Bahria Humanities and Social Sciences School, have contributed a scholarly entry on Indexing Theory to the Elgar Encyclopedia of Political Communication (2025).

This encyclopedia offers an authoritative overview of the field, bringing together foundational theories and cutting edge empirical methodologies. With contributions from nearly 600 scholars worldwide, it maps key debates, emerging areas of inquiry, and future directions for research.

Grateful to the editors and Edward Elgar Publishing for this platform, and to colleagues whose scholarship continues to advance the discipline.

The Media Review aims to strengthen academic communication, showcase research and creative work, and highlight the vibrant intellectual culture of the Media Studies community.

Proud to share that Ms Madeeha Fashat, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Media Studies, Bahria Humanities and Social Sciences School, conducted a faculty development workshop at Bahria College Islamabad on Teaching Strategies for Gen Z 📚✨

The session brought together dedicated educators to explore student centered teaching approaches that respond to the evolving learning styles, expectations, and challenges of Gen Z learners. It was an engaging and thoughtful discussion focused on making classrooms more responsive, relevant, and impactful.

Faculty development and reflective teaching practices are key to meaningful academic growth, and this workshop was a wonderful step in that direction.

congratulations to Dr Shabbir Hussain on being appointed as Head of the Department of Media Studies at Bahria University Islamabad 🎉

This new role is a proud moment for the department and a true recognition of his dedication to academic excellence and scholarly contribution. Dr Shabbir is widely respected for his research on conflict, war and peace, political communication, and critical journalism studies, with work that has gained international recognition and added an important South Asian perspective to global media research.

Beyond his research, he has been a committed mentor and academic leader, especially through his role in coordinating postgraduate programs. His guidance, experience, and forward looking vision will no doubt strengthen the department’s academic environment and research culture even further.
