International Society for Computational Biology - RSG Pakistan serves as a platform for students and young researchers in the field of computational biology and Bioinformatics. This organization focuses on networking, education, mentorship, career development and research collaborations. They provide opportunities for the students and professionals to connect, learn, and advance their careers.
ISCB-RSG Pakistan, initiated by the students from COMSATS University Islamabad, aims to foster a supportive and collaborative environment for students and young researchers interested in computational biology.
The oath taking ceremony of ISCB-RSG Pakistan office bearers and general members was held on 3rd September 2023 at COMSATS University Islamabad, where the society's introduction and goals were highlighted. Subsequently, the society launched a weekly webinar series, with sessions held every Saturday. These webinars featured talks on topics relevant to the field, delivered by distinguished professors in the domain of bioinformatics in Pakistan. These informative sessions attracted participants from across Pakistan and even included international attendees.
The first session of this webinar series took place on 23rd September 2023, with Dr. Waseem Haider, an Associate Professor in Bioinformatics at COMSATS University Islamabad, presenting a talk on "Detection of Cancer using AI on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Data." In this session, Dr. Haider covered fundamental aspects of NGS. Subsequently, the series continued with a second session on 30th September 2023, in which Dr. Haider explored the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in NGS data analysis. A third session was conducted on 7th October 2023 by Dr. Imtiaz Shafiq, a Professor in Bioinformatics at Punjab University, Lahore. Dr. Shafiq's session focused on the applications of AI in the fields of bioinformatics and biochemistry.
Furthermore, on 9th October 2023, a "Meet and Greet" session was organized, bringing together the Bioinformatics faculty, members of the society, and volunteers. During this session, the designated members of ISCB RSG Pakistan were introduced, and an oath-taking ceremony was held to formally induct new members into the society.
