*One Day National Seminar on Environment and Sustainable Development Hosted by Green Youth Movement Club, University of Sindh Jamshoro*

Jamshoro, Sindh, May 8, 2024 - Today, the Green Youth Movement Club at the University of Sindh Jamshoro, in collaboration with the Department of Geography and the Department of Art and Design, successfully organized a One Day National Seminar on Environment and Sustainable Development.

The seminar aimed to foster awareness and discussions on pressing environmental issues and strategies for sustainable development. Dr. Younis Laghari delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the day's discussions.

The seminar featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Gulzar Usman, Associate Professor from the Department of Community Medicine at LUMHS, who presented on pertinent topics related to environmental health.

Dr. Naveed Ahmed from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology shared insights on innovative approaches to sustainable engineering, while Dr. Amanullah Mahar, Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Environment, addressed crucial aspects of environmental management.

Mr. Abdul Haque Banglani provided valuable insights into digital cleaning, highlighting the importance of technology in environmental conservation efforts.

Moreover, Professor Saeed Mangi administered the oath to the newly formed cabinet of the Green Youth Movement Club, reinforcing their commitment to environmental advocacy and activism.

Dr. Agha Noor Taj Pathan, Dean of the University, presided over the award ceremony, where awards and shields were presented to the outgoing cabinet members for their dedicated service.

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Arfana Mallah, Director of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Abdul Rafiqur Lashari, Director of Geology, and Prof. Khalid Lashari, Chairman of Fisheries.

Captain Abdullah Jhatial, representing the Green Youth Movement Club, served as the host for the event, ensuring its smooth conduct and success.

Dr. Sujo Hemani Meghwar concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and sponsors for their invaluable contributions towards advancing the cause of environmental sustainability.

The one-day training at Soorty Enterprises (PVT) Limited in Karachi was a significant event under the CPEC Project's initiative for "Eco-Innovation for Sustainable Industrial Growth in Special Economic Zones (ECZS)." Held on November 1, 2023, it drew active participation from industry experts, project personnel, and Soorty Enterprises representatives. The session focused on critical challenges in the textile industry, including ammonia recovery, dye wastewater treatment, and achieving zero liquid discharge. Discussions highlighted the concept of a circular economy, emphasizing the transformation of waste materials into raw materials for other industries. Particularly, managing textile sludge through energy-generating incineration processes was a key topic.

[November 14th, 2023]- The 2nd National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting convened at the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W), located at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan. This gathering was held as part of the project titled "Eco-innovation for the sustainable industrial growth of the major industrial sector in the special economic zones (SEZs) under CPEC," funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The meeting was graced by the presence of distinguished members of the NSC, comprising esteemed experts and leaders within the industry. Among the attendees were Mr. Muslim Mohammadi, Vice Principal of KATI; Dr. Kamran Ansari, Director of USPCAS-W at Mehran UET Jamshoro; Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Vice Chancellor of BBSUTSD, Khairpur Mirs; Prof. Dr. Zubair Ahmed, Principal Investigator and Head of Department of Environmental Engineering at USPCAS-W Mehran UET Jamshoro; Kashif Mukhtar, Managing Director of National Spinning Mill Kotri; Mr. Hammad Kashif, Director of National Spinning Mill Kotri; Mr. Abtasam Khan, Manager EHS at Colgate Palmolive; Mr. Haseeb Ali, Deputy Manager at Colgate Palmolive; Mr. Abdul Malik, Assistant Director of Sindh EPA; Mr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari; Dr. Naveed Ahmed; Dr. Asmatullah; and Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, all representing USPCAS-W, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro.

The primary agenda of the session encompassed a comprehensive review of ongoing project activities, as well as discussions on forthcoming initiatives. This collaboration aims to nurture innovation, tackle real-world challenges, stimulate economic advancement, and equip the workforce with the necessary skills aligned with industry demands, notably through the identification and exploration of eco-innovative solutions.
