ABOUT BLOOD PRESSURE

There are two main types of blood pressure: systolic and diastolic.

1. Systolic Blood Pressure: This is the higher number in a blood pressure reading and represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart is contracting and pumping blood. It is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Normal systolic blood pressure is typically below 120 mmHg.

2. Diastolic Blood Pressure: This is the lower number in a blood pressure reading and represents the pressure in the arteries when the heart is at rest between beats. It is also measured in mmHg. Normal diastolic blood pressure is typically below 80 mmHg.

Blood pressure is often expressed as a ratio of systolic to diastolic pressure, such as 120/80 mmHg, which is considered within the normal range. High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is when the blood pressure consistently exceeds the normal range. It is an important risk factor for various health conditions, including heart disease and stroke.

It's important to note that blood pressure can vary throughout the day and can be influenced by factors such as physical activity, stress, and medication. Regular monitoring and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are crucial for managing blood pressure levels.
