Mass Spectrometry and NMR | Event Highlights

The Department of Biotechnology, University of Karachi, successfully hosted an insightful seminar, “Seeing Molecules Two Ways: An Introduction to Mass Spectrometry and NMR for Life Scientists,” featuring Dr. Uzma Zaman.

The session explored two powerful analytical techniques used in modern life sciences, offering students valuable insights into molecular analysis and their applications in scientific research.

🎓 Guest Lecture: Food Safety and Quality Control

We are honored to welcome Mr. Mudassir Nazir, Country Business Manager: Food Safety, Quality and Bioscience Leader, as our guest speaker for a session on industry practices and career opportunities for biotechnology graduates as part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the University of Karachi and the 30th Anniversary of the Department of Biotechnology.

With over 18 years of experience in food safety, quality management, auditing, and biosciences, he will share valuable industry insights and practical knowledge to help students understand the professional opportunities available to biotechnology graduates.

This session will provide an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices, while inspiring students to explore careers in food safety, quality assurance, testing, inspection, and related fields.

The Department of Biotechnology, University of Karachi, is honoured to welcome Prof. Dr. Obaid Ali as the distinguished speaker at 30 Years Biotechnology Symposium.

With expertise spanning biotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences, neuropharmacology, and regulatory sciences, Prof. Dr. Obaid Ali brings extensive experience across the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), the Federal Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (US FDA), Health Canada, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Currently serving as Advisor to the Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training and a senior civil service officer at DRAP, he brings valuable perspectives on science-based policymaking, regulatory governance, and the evolving relationship between scientific innovation and industry.

Join us as we explore biotechnology’s real-world scope, industrial relevance, and potential to shape Pakistan’s scientific and economic future.

As part of the 30 Years Celebration Series of the Department of Biotechnology, University of Karachi, an intensive SDS-PAGE Training Workshop was conducted.
it was a highly valuable hands-on learning experience for our students and young researchers. 🧬✨

The workshop was expertly facilitated by our respected faculty member Dr. Shafaq Aiyaz Hassan and our visiting facilitator Mr. Hassan Munir, and Ms. Nousheen, who guided participants through the basic concepts, practical ex*****on, applications, and result interpretation of SDS-PAGE.

We were delighted to host enthusiastic participants from various departments of the University of Karachi, along with students from other universities, making this event a true platform of collaborative learning and scientific skill-building.

Such training sessions are a step forward in strengthening practical expertise and empowering students with essential laboratory techniques required in modern biotechnology research. 🔬📊
