BS Poultry Science students from University of Karachi proudly attended the celebration of National Poultry Day organized by Poultry Professional Welfare Association (PPWA) at Poultry Research Institute, Korangi.
A special session was delivered by Syed Shakeel Haider vice-president of (PPWA) who shared valuable knowledge and insights about the poultry industry.
This visit provided us with valuable insights into the poultry industry, its importance in food production, and future career opportunities. Such events enhance our practical knowledge and motivate us to contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s poultry sector

The Department of Physiology, University of Karachi and the Sind Feed and Allied Products inked the memorandum of understanding to establish the mini-feed mill facility for the department’s poultry science program on the campus.

The MoU signing ceremony was held today at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat of Karachi University (KU). KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and the General Manager of Sind Feed and Allied Products, Mr. Rizwanullah Lodhi, signed the MoU documents.

As per the MoU, the Sind Feed and Allied Products would assist the poultry science program in agribusiness entity, besides helping the department of physiology in establishing and operating Shaikh Muhammad Anwer Animal Nutrition Research Facility, which aims to play a pivotal role in promoting collaborative research, training of students and faculty, and development in the field of animal, dairy and poultry nutrition.

The MoU also covers the development of indigenous feed formulations and analyzes alternative raw materials. Sind Feed and Allied Productions would provide training and internships to students and also facilitate the exchange of technical expertise.

The GM Sind Feed and Allied Productions Rizwanullah Lodhi shared that they would also help the department regarding sharing knowledge about vaccinations used in the poultry business. He mentioned that they are also going to hand over a pilot machine to the department, which will play an important role in shaping the mini-feed mill facility.

“We want to transfer our knowledge and expertise to the young generation as they have to lead this business in the future.”

Professor Dr Taseer Ahmed Khan mentioned that when the department was working on launching the poultry science degree program, they were discussing and lining up the curriculum with the Sind Feed and other organizations related to the poultry sector.

The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi shared that there are a few departments that have established a strong industry-academia linkage, and the department of physiology is one of them. He shared that practical learning is essential for students and such initiatives will surely open the doors for them.

Karachi University Poultry Science Society (KUPSS) a society of BS Poultry Science students extends heartfelt gratitude to Noor Poultry for their valuable coordination and support in organizing a student visit to International Poultry Exhibition (IPEX) 2025 in Lahore.
The visit provided excellent industry exposure, enabling students to engage with various leading poultry sector groups. It was a truly enriching experience that bridged academic learning with real world innovations in the poultry industry.

University of Karachi Students Visits Marjan Feeds.

The students from the BS Poultry Science program at the University of Karachi recently visited the Marjan Feed mill as part of their academic program. The visit was under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Taseer Ahmed Khan, coordinator BS Poultry Science program, University of Karachi and Dr. Musarrat Ali Khan who is a former production manager at qaswa and Marjan feed and former research officer at poultry research institute. The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand experience of poultry feed production processes and the importance of poultry feed in the poultry industry.

The visit was facilitated by Dr. Usman Faraz Production Manager and Nutritionist Marjan Feeds. During the visit, students were given a tour of the mill facilities, where they observed the various stages of feed production, from ingredient receiving and storage to mixing, pelleting, packaging with additional visit of quality control labs and RND (research and development) sector. They also had the opportunity to interact with mill personnel and learn about the different types of poultry feed produced by Marjan and their role in poultry nutrition.

The Department, Faculty, and students are highly thankful to the management of Marjan Feeds Mill, especially Mr. Zafar Siddiqui, the owner, for facilitating this academic visit and for his valuable interaction with the students. His insightful discussion, guidance, and encouragement greatly enhanced the learning experience and provided a deeper understanding of the feed industry.
