The Department of Physiology, University of Karachi and the Sind Feed and Allied Products inked the memorandum of understanding to establish the mini-feed mill facility for the department’s poultry science program on the campus.
The MoU signing ceremony was held today at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat of Karachi University (KU). KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and the General Manager of Sind Feed and Allied Products, Mr. Rizwanullah Lodhi, signed the MoU documents.
As per the MoU, the Sind Feed and Allied Products would assist the poultry science program in agribusiness entity, besides helping the department of physiology in establishing and operating Shaikh Muhammad Anwer Animal Nutrition Research Facility, which aims to play a pivotal role in promoting collaborative research, training of students and faculty, and development in the field of animal, dairy and poultry nutrition.
The MoU also covers the development of indigenous feed formulations and analyzes alternative raw materials. Sind Feed and Allied Productions would provide training and internships to students and also facilitate the exchange of technical expertise.
The GM Sind Feed and Allied Productions Rizwanullah Lodhi shared that they would also help the department regarding sharing knowledge about vaccinations used in the poultry business. He mentioned that they are also going to hand over a pilot machine to the department, which will play an important role in shaping the mini-feed mill facility.
“We want to transfer our knowledge and expertise to the young generation as they have to lead this business in the future.”
Professor Dr Taseer Ahmed Khan mentioned that when the department was working on launching the poultry science degree program, they were discussing and lining up the curriculum with the Sind Feed and other organizations related to the poultry sector.
The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi shared that there are a few departments that have established a strong industry-academia linkage, and the department of physiology is one of them. He shared that practical learning is essential for students and such initiatives will surely open the doors for them.
The Manager Production of Sind Feed Munawar Hussain Manais, Director at Sind Feed Nabi Buksh Anwer, Marketing Manager at Appie Farms Muhammad Umer, the KU’s Dean of Faculty of Science Professor Dr Rehana Saeed, Chairperson Department of Physiology Dr Lubna Naz, Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed, Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization Dr Syed Hoor Ul Ain and team ORIC and others were also present on this occasion.
