JSMU IPS Hosts “Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Translational Research in Pharmacology and Pathology”

The Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University successfully organized an academic event titled “Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Translational Research in Pharmacology and Pathology” under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, Principal IPS. The event was organized by Prof. Dr. Humera Siddiqui, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Vice Principal IPS, with the dedicated support of departmental faculty members. Faculty members from IPS and various departments of JSMU also graced the occasion and actively encouraged students through their presence and participation. The activity provided a dynamic platform for students to showcase their knowledge, research aptitude, and presentation skills while promoting academic excellence, confidence, and scientific engagement.

The event focused on key themes including Drug Discovery and Development, Translational Medicine, Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine, Disease Mechanisms and Pathology, and Innovative Therapeutic Strategies. Students from the 2nd and 3rd Professional Years actively participated and presented their work, reflecting a strong understanding of current advancements in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.

The presentations were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprising experts from leading academic institutions, including Dr. Sana Sarfaraz (University of Karachi, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) and Dr. Hina Abrar (Dow University of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy). The jury members brought diverse expertise in pharmacology, pharmacy, and pharmaceutical sciences, ensuring a comprehensive, fair, and insightful evaluation of the participants’ presentations. Their constructive feedback and academic observations were highly appreciated by both students and faculty members.

Following the evaluation process, the results were announced, and outstanding participants were recognized for their exceptional performances. Certificates were distributed among the winning students and participants in recognition of their achievements and active participation.

At the concluding ceremony, Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, Principal IPS, along with Dr. Humera Siddiqui, Vice Principal IPS and event Organizers, presented certificates to the esteemed jury members. Dr. Humera Siddiqui expressed her gratitude to the entire departmental team, including Dr. Sami Ullah, Dr. Noor-ul-Ain, Dr. Ahad Abdul Rehman, Dr. Rabia Munawwar, and Dr. Sidra Jameel, for their dedication and efforts in ensuring the successful organization of the event. She also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the judges and thanked Prof. Dr. Huma Ali for her continuous support, encouragement, and guidance.

“Eye See, I Care” – Awareness Session at JSMU

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), under the leadership of Principal IPS Professor Dr. Huma Ali, in collaboration with Hudson Pharma through the Connect to Grow initiative, successfully organized an awareness session titled “Eye See, I Care.”

The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Israr Ahmed, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, JSMU, who shared valuable insights on eye health awareness and professional development with the participants.

The session was hosted and moderated by Dr. Anum Tariq, who efficiently conducted the proceedings. Mehak Kashif served as the Industry Moderator, facilitating effective engagement between participants and speakers throughout the session.

Mr. Usman Qureshi, Business Head Unit Hudson Pharma, addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of awareness, collaboration, and continuous professional growth within the healthcare sector.

An interactive Dry Eye Awareness activity was conducted by Dr. Duraya, actively engaging participants and enhancing their understanding of the condition. Mr. Anas also contributed by sharing key insights on dry eye awareness with students and encouraging interactive participation.

Awareness session on "Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS)"

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), successfully organized an insightful awareness session on "Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS)" on 21st May 2026. The session was conducted under the leadership of Principal IPS, Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, aiming to promote awareness regarding early diagnosis, prevention, and women’s health education.

The event was organized by Prof. Dr. Kiran Rafiq Student Advisor IPS and head of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, facilitated by Dr. Erum Zaheer Assistant Professor Chemistry, bringing together students and participants for an engaging and informative session focused on empowering women through healthcare awareness and education.

The session featured Prof. Dr. Shahina Ishtiaq, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist from Ziauddin Hospital, as the guest speaker, who shared valuable insights and expert knowledge on PCOS, its management, and the importance of timely intervention.

Pharma & Healthcare Business Idea Competition – 2026 IPS-JSMU

Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), successfully conducted the “Pharma & Healthcare Business Idea Competition – 2026,” providing a dynamic platform for young innovators, researchers, and emerging healthcare entrepreneurs to present impactful and solution-oriented ideas in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare innovation. The event reflected the institution’s strong commitment to academic excellence, research advancement, innovation, and industry–academia collaboration under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon and the guidance of Principal IPS and Program Coordinator Professor Dr. Huma Ali.

The competition attracted more than 30 registered business ideas, which were evaluated through multiple rigorous judging panels comprising distinguished experts from academia, healthcare institutions, research organizations, and the pharmaceutical industry. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from several leading institutions, including Salim Habib University, Hamdard University, Dow University of Health Sciences, and Jinnah Sindh Medical University.

The esteemed panel of judges included professionals from diverse fields of healthcare, pharmacy, research, and industry, including Dr. Ghias Ahmed from Medisure Laboratories, Dr. Asif Mehmood (RPh) from Atco Group, Dr. Qudrat Ullah Khan Niazi from PharmEvo, Dr. Ruqaiyya from Dimension Research, Dr. Kiran Qadeer and Dr. Laeeq-uz-Zaman from JSMU, Dr. Asif Z. Special appreciation awards were also presented to deserving participants, where Salim Habib University received the first special prize, Hamdard University received the second special prize, and Dow University of Health Sciences received the third special prize in recognition of their remarkable contributions.

IPS-JSMU Successfully Conducts Workshop on SPSS for Research and Data Management

The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University, under the leadership of Professor Huma Ali, Principal IPS, successfully organized a comprehensive hands-on workshop titled “From Raw to Organized: Roadmap for Data Management Using SPSS.” The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Physiology, SMC-JSMU, under the leadership of Professor Asif Memon. The academic session was specifically designed to equip MPhil snd PhD students with practical knowledge and technical skills in data organization, statistical analysis, and research management using SPSS software.

The workshop featured an interactive and application-oriented learning environment facilitated by Ms. Tallat Naz, Senior Academician and Physiologist at SMC-JSMU, who served as the facilitator for the session. Mr. Kashan Majeed performed the responsibilities of organizer, and moderator, ensuring the smooth ex*****on and coordination of the session. The program was conducted under the coordination of Programme Coordinator Dr. Shaheen Perveen, and with the support of Head of Pharmacy Practice Department Dr. Sadaf Naeem.

Addressing the participants, Professor Huma Ali highlighted the growing importance of data analysis and evidence-based research in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and encouraged students to strengthen their analytical and research competencies through such academic initiatives. She appreciated the dedication of the organizing team, IT technical support and acknowledged the valuable contribution of the facilitators in promoting research excellence and professional development among postgraduate students at JSMU.

IPS - JSMU Successfully Conducts Workshop on Clinical Research Methodology

Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Jinnah Sindh Medical University under the leadership of Principal IPS, Professor Huma Ali, successfully organized an engaging and informative workshop titled “From Idea to Impact: Mastering Clinical Research Methodology” for postgraduate students at IPS, JSMU.

The workshop was actively arranged by Dr. Saba Zubair under the guidance of the chairperson department of Pharmacy Practice Dr. Sadaf Naeem facilitated by Muhammad Asif, President, Medical Health Research Foundation and Director, Clinical Trial Unit JPMC. Dr. Saba Zubair lecturer of Pharmacy Practice also served as the session moderator. The session provided participants with valuable insights into developing strong research questions, study design and clinical trial basics, ethical considerations & GCP, and publication pathways.

Change of Command 2026: IPS Student Committee Ushers in New Leadership

The Change of Command 2026 ceremony of the IPS Student Committee was successfully conducted under the leadership of respected Principal IPS, JSMU, Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, and Student Advisor Prof. Dr. Kiran Rafiq. The event marked a memorable transition of responsibilities while celebrating the dedication and hard work of the outgoing team.

The outgoing executives — President Sameer Ali, Vice President Anaras Khalid, and General Secretary Zoya — along with all former heads, were highly appreciated for their remarkable contributions, commitment, and efforts throughout the year 2025. Certificates of appreciation were presented to acknowledge their services and dedication towards IPS Student Committee.

The ceremony also welcomed the newly appointed executive body for 2026.
