Playground Playground is the Centre for transdisciplinarity, design and innovation at Habib University, Karachi

The playground is a community space, and a university-wide ecosystem, designed exclusively for creative collaborative work that helps transform the teaching and learning experience at Habib University. It serves as a gateway, and enhances accessibility, to making and design activities across departments and schools. Through workshops, pop-up classes, external projects, and augmented curricular act

ivities, students are able to learn, and apply their learning, across disciplines and media - from sewing to 3D printing, photography to film, board games to phone apps, wood work to metal work, and beyond. At the heart of this initiative is the commitment to being playful - to experimenting, getting our hands dirty, creating new rules for engagement, embracing failure and learning from it, and thoughtfully de/re-constructing the way we teach and learn.

After two long days of hard work and collaboration, students at Habib University presented their solutions to a panel of judges. The panel consisted of Mr. Jamshed Arslan, Mr. Irfan Kheiri, and Mr. Mansoor Ali, who assessed the interdisciplinary group of students based on their intellectual capacity, creativity, and the innovation used to develop real-world solutions for the proposed problems.
We extend our warmest congratulations to the winning teams of IFTP 2025 who’s innovation, teamwork and dedication for solving real-world problems has been awe-inspiring.

With their research, design thinking, and creativity, they are addressing critical environmental challenges like carbon emissions, sustainable housing, and climate change.

The winners from the local round of IFTP 2025 will move on to compete in the global finals. For two years in a row, Habib University students have proudly secured top-three positions on the global stage.

The 6th iteration of Invent for the Planet (IFTP) is currently underway at Horizon, one of the many student-centered learning spaces at Habib University. This global 48-hour design challenge is hosted by Texas A&M University and it brings together students worldwide to solve environmental issues.
Day one of the local round of IFTP ‘25 is in full swing as Habib University students engage in various team building activities with their mentors and peers as they focus on designing sustainable solutions. This year’s need statements revolved around developing solutions to lower carbon-emissions, advancing carbon capture and storage technologies, creating sustainable housing, and designing solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Farees Shah has been leading business for over a decade and been a founder/CEO of various companies including Daraz, iflix, VavaCars. He is also currently engaged as CEO of Cerisma, an upcoming fintech which is wholly owned bt PSO. He has also been an Entrepreneurship Coach INSEAD's Xseed Incubation Program which is a start up mentoring program in Pakistan in collaboration with National Incubation Centre Karachi. He is also a former radio show host and runs his own youtube channel called . He holds a B.Sc(Honors) in Computer Science from LUMS and a MBA from INSEAD.
