Story of Bookworms
Dilemma
Bookworm came into existence as a result of underlying problems that most of the people think books are boring or expensive and the book lovers have very limited options to satisfy their reading appetite. The situation is getting worse day by day so the dilemma forced many booksellers / publishers to exit from the book industry across the world. How it started
It starte
d with a team of two common individuals who were working in a reputable multinational company, earning a handsome salary but weren’t satisfied, it wasn’t the right fit. We think no one is born to become a part of another man’s dream, we all have our own dreams. So we studied and worked together yet we were different, one was a avid reader and other is a fun lover so an idea struck why not start something that can combine the two dimensions, the book lovers and the rest of the people. We started with value added delivery of books in Karachi, where the customers can order from any digital mode of communication which includes; text, whatsapp, website, facebook, instagram and twitter. It was going on at a nominal pace until our first public event changed our lives completely; it was 5th December 2013 at Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF) where we officially inaugurated Bookworm and launched our website and the response was astonishing, we just had few books on the shelf unlike other big fishes we just had an idea. Our website got chocked up with orders and positive response, and then we decided to take a leap of faith and leave our jobs for a bigger cause. The expansion
Our expansion is completely driven by our customers, so we expanded our delivery network across Pakistan and it was astounding that 30% of our orders are from far flung areas. Still the book lovers were craving for more value apart from the buying of books, then we came up with the concept of Reading booths and Bookworm lounges where people can keep read their best sellers for free on a comfy been bag (currently its operating in two major spots, Del Frio Sindhi Muslim branch and Bahria University, Karachi). We are in pursuit of book lovers so we contacted few local book clubs and found that they are also facing problems, we listened to their concerns and now we are working as a facilitator of the many book clubs. The major concerns of the non-readers and readers were still not addressed that the books are very expensive and they find it difficult to find it, so our new service will completely focus on cost less books where users can swap their books with other user's books in a hassle free manner. We wow to keep on innovating as per the customer needs and demands. www.bookwormpakistan.com
