🇵🇰 Two Pakistani academics join global dental journal

🌍 A proud moment for Pakistan’s dental academic community!

Two Pakistani dental academics have secured important editorial roles at the International Dental Journal (IDJ) — the official scientific journal of the FDI World Dental Federation.

🦷 Dr. Zohaib Khurshid has begun his second year as Associate Editor. His research spans dental biomaterials, regenerative dentistry, artificial intelligence in dentistry and oral-health research.

📊 Dr. Mustafa Naseem has joined the IDJ Editorial Board as Statistical Editor for 2026. His expertise in research methodology and biostatistics will contribute to maintaining the methodological quality of research submitted to the journal.

But there’s more. 👀

The International Dental Journal has been publishing continuously for seven decades, has been gold open access since 2021, and recorded a 2024 Impact Factor of 3.7, placing it in the top quartile of the Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Medicine category.

🇵🇰 Their appointments are more than individual achievements — they reflect the growing presence of Pakistani dental researchers in global scientific publishing, evidence-based dentistry and oral-health research.

From FJDC to Canada — the journey continues, and so do the connections. 🇨🇦

On 12th June 2026, the growing community of FJDCians in Canada came together for a memorable FJDC Alumni Reunion Dinner — organized by our alumni, for our alumni.

Member of Parliament Iqra Khalid was the Chief Guest for the evening.

Dr. Syed Baqar Askary, Founder of FJDC, graced the occasion with his presence, honouring the gathering and adding special significance to an evening celebrating the College’s enduring legacy and its alumni across generations.

Prof. Dr. Hussain Askary (CEO, Head of Community Dentistry, Batch 7) and Prof. Dr. Gul Askary (Director Academics, Head of Oral Pathology, Batch 7) joined all the way from Pakistan making the occasion more meaningful, reflecting the strong and continuing connection between FJDC and its alumni in Canada.

Prof. Dr. Hussain Askary highlighted the remarkable journey of FJDC since its establishment in 1992 as a pioneering private-sector dental institution in Pakistan. He reflected on the College’s enduring legacy of ethical education, community service and philanthropy, noting that nearly 35 years later, this legacy continues through alumni serving in more than 16 countries around the world. Despite generations, geography and diverse career paths separating them, he emphasized that FJDC alumni remain connected by a shared beginning — the same corridors, classrooms, teachers and institutional values.

Speaking both as CEO of FJDC and an alumnus of its 7th batch, Prof. Askary also shared his personal connection with Canada and recalled his experience as a newcomer to the country, describing the Greater Toronto Area as a second home and acknowledging both the opportunities and challenges of building a life abroad. He encouraged FJDC alumni in Canada to remain connected, support one another and take pride in their shared roots, reaffirming his full support for strengthening the FJDC alumni community in Canada and its connection with the College.

Nearly 50 FJDCians gathered from across Canada, with fellow alumni also travelling from the United States to join the celebration.
It was more than a reunion. It was an evening that brought together generations of alumni—old friends meeting again, memories being relived, new connections being formed, and a shared sense of belonging that has remained strong despite the years and the miles.

The evening also marked an important milestone with the formation of the FJDC Canada Alumni Association Board, strengthening the alumni network and creating new opportunities for FJDCians to stay connected and support one another.
