At the kind invitation of Mr. Hussain Dawood (H.I.), Chairman Engro, a delegation from Dawood University of Engineering & Technology visited the Karachi office of Engro Corp.

DUET was represented by Prof. Dr. Asif Shah, Registrar; Dr. Dawood Idrees, Director Industrial Liaison & Placement Bureau; and Dr. Muhammad Rauf, Chairman Department of Electronic Engineering.
Engro was represented by Mr. Aneeq Ahmed, Senior Vice President Manufacturing - Engro Fertilizers Limited and Mr. Mahmood Siddiqui, Vice President Technical Capability & Group HSE - Engro Technical Solutions.

Building on Mr. Hussain Dawood's vision of closer ties between industry & academia, the delegation presented an industry-integrated undergraduate training model developed under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (S.I, T.I).

Under the proposal, students of Chemical, Electronic, and Energy & Environmental Engineering will receive hands-on training at Engro's operational facilities and complete their FYDP as per real industrial needs, gaining exposure to operational, technical & safety standards of large-scale industry.

Discussions also covered mapping of learning outcomes & assessment in line with PEC & HEC standards. Engro team welcomed the proposal and will explore a framework to take collaboration forward.

The Research Products Development Unit (RPDU) of Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) proudly participated first time in the 28th ITCN Asia 2026, held from 22–24 September 2026 at the Karachi Expo Centre.

At the exhibition eight innovative startups from RPDU showcased their cutting-edge products, technologies, and business solutions to a wide audience. The stall attracted significant attention from industry leaders, technology experts, investors, entrepreneurs, academia, and government representatives, who expressed keen interest in collaborating with DUET RPDU on future initiatives.

The event served as a valuable platform for exploring opportunities and engagements related to industry-academia partnerships, research funding, startup commercialization, internship placements, joint projects, advance education and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Several organizations showed interest in establishing long-term collaborations with DUET to support innovation, research, entrepreneurship, customized projects.

DUET ORIC, along with startup founders, actively engaged with visitors and stakeholders, explaining DUET’s growing innovation ecosystem and entrepreneurial achievements.

The overwhelming response received at 28th ITCN Asia 2026 reflects the visionary leadership and continuous efforts of Honorable Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (S.I., T.I.) in promoting research excellence, innovation, and industry engagement. Their commitment has enabled DUET RPDU to gain recognition on national and international platforms, strengthening the University's presence in the global innovation landscape.

DUET also extends its sincere appreciation to its faculty members whose active participation, mentorship, and continuous guidance have played a vital role in promoting research, innovation, and entrepreneurial activities among students. Their commitment to nurturing young talent and supporting research-driven initiatives has significantly contributed to the success of DUET RPDU's innovation ecosystem.

As a recognition of DUET's impactful participation and contribution to the innovation ecosystem at 28th ITCN Asia 2026, Mr. Muhammad Umair Nizam, (Group Vice President, Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., presented a commemorative shield to Director ORIC. The gesture acknowledged DUET's commitment through the collective support of its faculty and students, to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, industry engagement, and research commercialization through the RPDU and ORIC initiatives.

A seminar on “Global Governance and China-Pakistan Relations”, hosted by the Consul General of China in Karachi, brought together universities from Sindh and Balochistan to exchange perspectives and explore avenues for higher-education collaboration.

Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) was represented by Prof. Dr. Yasira Naeem Pasha, Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture & Planning, on behalf of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (S.I., T.I.).

Discussions focused on faculty and student exchanges, alumni forums, internships, and collaboration under the Global Governance Initiative, highlighting opportunities for stronger academic linkages between Pakistan and China.

His Excellency also presented each participant with a copy of The Governance of China, adding a meaningful dimension to the exchange of ideas.

Karachi - September 28, 2026:

Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) Karachi and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a National Student Exchange Program.

The MoU was signed by the Engr. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (S.I, T.I), Vice Chancellors of Dawood UET Karachi and Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (T.I) in the presence of Deans and senior faculty.

As agreed, initially the program will start with three programs:

1. Chemical Engineering
2. Architecture & Planning
3. Computer System Engineering

Under this, students of these three programs will be exchanged for one semester and final year projects, with credit transfer as per HEC policy. The scope will be extended to other programs in the next phase.

Both Vice Chancellors termed the initiative a vital step towards interprovincial harmony and national integration, enabling students from Punjab and Sindh to experience each other's academic culture, pedagogical strengths and industrial linkages.
The first batch is expected to be inducted in Spring 2027.

Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) took a significant step towards commercialization of its indigenous green technology, “Ash Plastic” – an innovative composite material made from waste plastic and bottom ash of coal-fired power plants.

Mr. Nooruddin Daud (T.I Civil) of Daudsons Armoury – Pakistan’s leading private defence equipment manufacturer – visited DUET as the first prospective client for the technology.

During the visit, Mr. Nooruddin Daud (T.I Civil) called on Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (S.I, T.I), Vice Chancellor, DUET and held detailed technical discussions with Dr. Abdul Fatah Soomro, Dr. Rashid Mustafa Korai and Dr. Muhammad Rauf. The owner Mr. Nooruddin Daud visited labs and facilities at the University and showed keen interest in the technology.

It was decided that the first product to be launched using Ash Plastic material has been finalized [picture is shared]. The product will be manufactured using the DUET-developed composite.

During the meeting, all technical and commercial modalities were finalized in principle. It was agreed that after a return visit of DUET faculty members and researchers to the Daudsons facility, the formal product manufacturing agreement will be signed.

The discussions also identified future pipeline projects, including areas related to automation and bomb fuse systems, where DUET’s engineering expertise and lab facilities can support indigenous defence manufacturing.

Ash Plastic is DUET’s waste-to-wealth solution that converts two major industrial wastes into durable, lightweight and cost-effective composite materials for construction, industrial and defence applications – promoting circular economy and a greener Pakistan.
