Karachi Medical and Dental College came into existence in 1991 in affiliation with Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, becoming the first Medical College of Pakistan to be established and run by a local government. KMDC set new trends in the medical field and produced the best quality doctors. KMDC was the first public sector Medical College of Pakistan to initiate an entrance test for admissions.
