Our Proud President Asadullah Selected for University of Žilina, Slovak Republic under National Scholarship Programme

We are proud to share that Asadullah, a student of Software Engineering (6th Semester, Batch 23S) at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), has been selected for the prestigious National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic at the University of Žilina.

The National Scholarship Programme (NSP) is a government-funded initiative supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of Slovakia. It aims to support international students, researchers, and artists by providing opportunities to study and conduct research in Slovakia, while promoting global academic exchange and cultural understanding.

Each year, applicants from across the world compete for this highly competitive programme, with only a limited number of candidates selected based on their academic excellence and achievements. The scholarship is open to students across bachelor’s, master’s and PhD levels.

The Journey of the Soul: “Sasui Punhoon”
On June 3, 2025 SMIU Literary Soceity organized a theater play. Inspired by Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s verses, we brought to life the story of Sasui, A woman who did not just search for Punhoon…
She searched for herself. For strength. For truth.
"سسيءَ صبر سکيو، ته پنهون پنهجي پاسي،
الاهي عشق اکي، تن کي توفيق ٿئي."
If Sasui learns patience, she’ll find her Punhoon again.
Only those blessed by love's divine eye reach their beloved.

Assistant Professor Wafa Mansoor Buriro, Patron of the Literary Society, inaugurated the evening by emphasizing the enduring importance of Sindh’s rich literary heritage. He praised Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s narrative for its profound spiritual depth and timeless relevance, urging students to engage more deeply with Sufi literature to enrich their cultural understanding and personal growth.

The play, directed by Muhammad Taha Nadeem and scripted by Zaheer Abbas, featured powerful performances by Sartaj Amir as Punhu and Maya Soomro as Sassui. The lead actors, along with Komal Hayat Veerji as Punhu’s mother and Saifullah Minhas as his father, skillfully portrayed the emotional and spiritual depth of the narrative, which centers on themes of love, longing, endurance, and devotion.

Ali Mehdi Abro, President of the Literary Society, delivered closing remarks, emphasizing the society’s dedication to reviving classical heritage through creative expression. He expressed gratitude to his team including Vice President Asadullah Sheikh, Treasurer Hasnain Bhatti, and other members who worked tirelessly on script development, set design, promotions, and logistics for their commitment to artistic integrity and organizational excellence.

The Literary Society continues to foster a culture of reading, critical thinking, and literary appreciation through a diverse range of activities, including poetry recitations, book clubs, panel discussions, and theatrical productions. The event was widely praised by students, faculty, and literary enthusiasts for creatively bridging classical literature with contemporary art forms.

Highlights from the Third Book Club Session! ✨📚

On May 9th, SMIU’s Literary Society gathered once again at Sindh Madressatul Islam University, for a thought-provoking discussion for a thought-provoking discussion this time on Earthly Matters.
Students and faculty came together to reflect on themes of nature, belonging, and the stories that c***ect us to the world around us.

The session began with insightful remarks by Sir Wafa, Patron of the Literary Society, whose thoughtful suggestion to read this book opened the door to deep conversation on Pakistan’s environmental issues especially the water crisis.
From reflective comments to an engaging Q&A session, the room echoed with curiosity, empathy, and c***ection.
Book Club is more than a reading space it’s a growing community of voices, ideas, and shared passion for literature. 🌿

*"میں نہیں مانتا، میں نہیں جانتا"*
*(I do not accept, I do not recognize)*

Today, 14th March, we pay tribute to *Habib Jalib*, a poet whose words became a symbol of defiance against injustice. ✊

*Habib Jalib (1928–1993)* was a revolutionary poet, fearless activist, and an unwavering voice for the people. Born in Hoshiarpur, India, he migrated to Pakistan after partition and quickly gained recognition for his bold verses that spoke against oppression and authoritarianism.

Jalib’s poetry, written in simple yet powerful language, resonated deeply with ordinary people. He never hesitated to stand with workers, students, and marginalized communities, often facing imprisonment for his outspoken views.

Despite hardships, his resolve never wavered. Poems like *"Dastoor,"* *"Musheer,"* and *"Larkayga"* became anthems of resistance, inspiring countless movements for democracy and social justice.

He passed away on 14th March 1993, but his words continue to echo in every struggle for freedom, reminding us that the fight for truth and humanity never dies.

شيخ اياز، 23 مارچ 1923ع تي شڪارپور، سنڌ ۾ ڄائو. هو جديد سنڌي ۽ اردو ادب جو وڏو شاعر ۽ ليکڪ هو، جنهن پنهنجي تخليقي صلاحيتن سان ادب کي نوان لاڙا ڏنا. شيخ اياز جي تصنيفن ۾ شاعري، مضمون، افسانا، ۽ سوانح عمريون شامل آهن، جن جي تعداد 50 کان وڌيڪ آهي.

هن شاهه عبداللطيف ڀٽائي جي عظيم شاهڪار شاهه جو رسالو جو اردو ۾ ترجمو ڪيو، جيڪو سندس صوفيانه فڪر کي عالمي سطح تي متعارف ڪرائڻ ۾ مددگار ثابت ٿيو. شيخ اياز جي شاعري ۾ قومي جذبو، محبت، آزادي، ۽ جمالياتي فڪر جي ڀرپور عڪاسي ملي ٿي.

شيخ اياز کي ڪيترن ئي اعزازن سان نوازيو ويو، جن ۾ ستاره امتياز شامل آهي. سندس شاعري ۽ فڪر ڪيترين ٻولين ۾ ترجمو ٿيو ۽ عالمي سطح تي پڻ سڃاڻپ ملي.

شيخ اياز 28 ڊسمبر 1997ع تي اسان کان وڇڙي ويو، پر سندس شاعري ۽ فڪر اڄ به سنڌي ادب جي روشن تاريخ جو اهم حصو آهن.

Born in Shikarpur, Shaikh Ayaz transformed Sindhi and Urdu literature, introducing modern trends and writing over 50 books, including poetry, biographies, articles, and short stories. His remarkable work includes translating the timeless Shah Jo Risalo into Urdu, bringing its mystic beauty to a wider audience.

His poetry, rich in aesthetic value, has been translated into several major languages, reflecting the depth of his art and thoughts. A progressive thinker, his words played a crucial role in shaping ideas and celebrating the mysticism of Shah Abdul Latif.

Awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Shaikh Ayaz’s legacy lives on, inspiring hearts and minds across generations.
