Some moments mark more than a celebration, they mark a legacy. We were proud to honor Dr. Parvez Hassan by naming the Centre after him, acknowledging a founding vision that continues to inform its institutional ethos and direction.

The presence of H.E. Zhao Shiren, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lahore, lent special meaning to the occasion, underscoring the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China and a shared commitment to sustained academic and institutional collaboration.

As the Parvez Hassan Centre for Chinese Legal Studies moves forward, it remains dedicated to expanding engagement, strengthening institutional linkages, and supporting deeper collaboration between Pakistan and China across legal and policy-oriented platforms.

Meet our final year student, Yusra Rasool, sharing her externship experience at the Human Rights Clinic, Birmingham City University, School of Law!

"The externship with Birmingham City University has been an enriching academic and professional experience that allowed me to engage deeply with international human rights law. My research focused on the abolition of the death penalty in Tajikistan within the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process, exploring how international legal frameworks influence domestic reform and state accountability. This work offered valuable insight into the intersection of law, policy, and human rights advocacy, while strengthening my ability to conduct nuanced legal research and draft evidence-based policy analysis.

Working under the supervision of Dr. Amna Nazir, was a truly formative experience. Her mentorship refined my understanding of UN mechanisms and the practical dimensions of human rights protection. The placement not only enhanced my analytical and writing skills but also deepened my commitment to advancing justice and human dignity through legal research and advocacy. It has been a privilege to contribute to meaningful global discussions aimed at fostering a more equitable and humane world."

On November 27th, Barrister Salman Safdar, advocate of the Supreme Court, delivered a lecture on best practices for presenting evidence in court.

He shed light on the importance of proper presentation of evidence and discussed how FIRs, proper investigations, and medical/forensic procedures, especially post-mortems conducted by authorised medical experts, are essential for identifying the culprit. He also highlighted the importance of crime-scene and its proper investigation using modern techniques such as taking photographs, tagging of crime-scene items, and effective coordination between the police and prosecution, briefly referring to foreign case law to illustrate how such practices strengthen criminal justice system.

Students were encouraged to reflect on how the criminal justice system currently operates and to consider how meaningful reforms could address its gaps.
