For their senior project, Muhammad Ali Kumail, Jahanzaib Khan, and Muhammad Ibrahim travelled deep into the Cholistan Desert to study the impact of the Green Pakistan Initiative on local pastoral communities. Across two field trips, the team travelled nearly 200 km into the desert, documenting model farms, water infrastructure, and the seasonal migration of pastoral communities.
The fieldwork offered an opportunity to engage directly with communities whose lives and livelihoods are closely tied to the land, while tracing the changing landscape of Cholistan firsthand.
We commend our students for the dedication to field-based research that took their project from the classroom into the heart of the desert.
