As part of ongoing Community Outreach Initiatives, the Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry, CMH Lahore Medical College & Institute of Dentistry, conducted a collaborative health activity on 8 April 2026 at the Nawaz Sharif Center of Excellence for Early Childhood Education(NSCoE), in collaboration with the Eye Department and SYNC Society.

The initiative aimed to provide integrated Oral and Visual health services to young children, with a strong focus on prevention, early detection, and health promotion. This interdisciplinary approach reflects a comprehensive model of community-based healthcare.

The activity was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ali Anwaar (Head of Department), Associate Professor Dr. Asma Shakoor, with participation from Dr. Faiza Fatima, Dr. Javariya Ashraf, Dr. Zainab Noor, and Dr. Yousma Javed. The team ensured smooth ex*****on of screening, education, and referral services.

A total of 280 children were screened during the Outreach activity.

Oral Health Component:

Children were examined for dental caries, plaque, and other oral conditions. Preventive education was delivered through interactive demonstrations and age-appropriate learning activities. The findings highlighted that while the majority of children had good oral hygiene, a proportion required clinical attention, emphasizing the need for early preventive care and parental involvement.

Vision Screening Component:

The eye screening camp was conducted using standard protocols. Visual acuity was assessed using the Snellen chart with monocular testing, along with basic external eye examination to identify visible abnormalities. Children with reduced visual acuity were reassessed and referred for detailed evaluation. The results indicated that approximately 60–70% of children required further evaluation, mainly due to suspected refractive errors, while a smaller number presented with minor ocular conditions.

This Outreach activity successfully enhanced awareness among children, teachers, and parents regarding the importance of early screening and preventive care in both Oral and Visual health.

The initiative highlights the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in improving access to healthcare services and promoting healthier outcomes for children.
