Today, we bid farewell to a remarkable academician, mentor, and leader — Professor Dr. Arshad Javed, who has recently retired as the Chairman of the Department of Plant Pathology.

Dr. Arshad Javed's career has been nothing short of inspiring. With decades of dedicated service to teaching, research, and institutional development, he has left an indelible mark on the academic community. Under his dynamic leadership, the Department of Plant Pathology not only grew in stature but also became a center of excellence in research and innovation.

His mentorship has shaped the careers of countless students and colleagues, who have always admired his integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. His presence in the department will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to guide us for years to come.

As we gather to celebrate his contributions, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and fulfilling new chapter in life. May this retirement bring him much-deserved peace, joy, and new opportunities to explore life beyond academia.

Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of the Punjab, Lahore, proudly hosts an International Seminar on Urban Horticulture for a Sustainable Future on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The event aims to bring together thought leaders, researchers, and experts to discuss innovative solutions for urban Horticulture and addressing the increasing demand for sustainable green spaces in rapidly urbanizing cities. The seminar focused on the crucial role of horticulture in shaping a greener and more sustainable future tackling issues such as food security, environmental conservation, and climate resilience in urban landscapes. Mr. Erik Arthur van Os, Netherlands (Guest Speaker), Mr. Christianus Petrus, Netherlands and Malik Mohsin Shahzad, Co-founder & Managing Director, Spurt International were also Guest Speakers. Worthy vice chancellor, University of the Punjab, Lahore Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali also grace the event and briefed to remain committed for advancing research and promoting innovation in this vital area. Whereas Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences Prof. Dr. M. Saleem Haider also presented his views in his address stating that cities around the globe continue to expand, the need for innovative and sustainable approaches to green urban spaces becomes more urgent. Dr. Mubeen Sarwar from Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of the Punjab, Lahore was the Chief Organizer of the event.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arshad Javed, Chairman, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetic, Dr. Shinawar Waseem Ali, Chairman, Department of Food Science, Prof. Dr Tehmina Anjum, Chairperson, Department of Plant Pathology, Faculty members and a large number of students participated in the event.
