21 January 2026

The seminar titled “Beyond the Weeping Walls: The Evolution of Women’s Voices in the Theatre of War” highlighted the underrepresented yet powerful role of women in times of conflict, particularly in how their voices have evolved from being silenced to becoming central narratives in theatre and literature. Organized by the Department of English at LCW , and conducted by Prof. Dr. Fatima Syeda, Chairperson Department of English at FCCU, the event brought students and faculty to explore how war impacts women and how women, in turn, reshape war narratives.
Dr Syeda talked on how theatre and literature become mediums through which women’s trauma, resilience, and agency are foregrounded. And how from ancient epics to modern drama, women’s voices have shifted from being “weeping walls” to becoming “speaking walls”.
Dr Syeda traced the trajectory of Women voices from Hecuba in ancient Troy to modern playwrights and activists who have continuously reshaped these narratives. The voices of women transform from lamentation to resistance, proving that even in destruction, women’s resilience becomes a foundation for empowerment and memory.

The seminar titled “The Indigenous Reading of Shakespeare’s Plays”, conducted by Dr Zakia Resshid Ehsen was a highly informative session. Held on November 19 2025, this seminar was organised by the Department of English for both the MS students and faculty. The seminar explored unique perspectives on interpreting Shakespeare's works through indigenous lens. Dr. Ehsen's research is vast on the topic of appropriation, delving into questions like whether Shakespeare's works should be localized or not. Such inquiries highlight and provoke critical thinking on the cultural relevance, adaptation, and interpretation of Shakespeare's plays in diverse settings. The seminar sparked engaging discussion on the balance between preserving the original intent of the plays and making them resonate with indigenous audiences.
