Conducted under the supervision of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 Asif Akhtar, the research explores the influence of alkali and alkaline earth metallic species on the kinetics of biochar gasification under different gasifying environments. The work contributes to a better understanding of biomass conversion processes with relevance to 𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬.

A team of faculty members from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, led by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒. 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐢 𝐊𝐚𝐳𝐦𝐢, Director ORIC, visited 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐟𝐢 𝐑𝐞𝐳𝐨 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬 (SRC) to explore opportunities for collaborative research and industrial problem-solving.

The meeting focused on identifying areas of mutual interest, including production enhancement, waste reduction, process optimization, and improvement of existing chemical formulations through applied research and innovation. Both sides discussed the potential for leveraging UET Lahore's research expertise to address industrial challenges and enhance manufacturing competitiveness.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, UET Lahore, is pleased to welcome 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐔𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧 back to the Department after successfully completing his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Khalifa University, UAE. His doctoral research focused on 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐎₂/𝐇₂𝐎 𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, complemented by expertise in experimental characterization and computational modeling.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, UET Lahore, organized a faculty development session on 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 & 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 on 𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔. The session was delivered by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐢 𝐊𝐚𝐳𝐦𝐢, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐂, 𝐔𝐄𝐓 𝐋𝐚𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞, who shared valuable insights on CEPs and the application of problem-based learning in engineering education.

An appreciation shield was presented to 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐚𝐳𝐦𝐢 in recognition of his valuable contribution as the resource person.

The occasion also included recognition of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐨, 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫, for her performance in the 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲𝐬, where she received the highest overall student evaluation among departmental faculty over the last three years. The Chairman presented her with an appreciation shield in acknowledgment.

The 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐄𝐓 𝐋𝐚𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 was held on 𝟐𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 at the Department of Chemical Engineering, UET Lahore, to review the progress of the Fund and discuss future initiatives for strengthening student support.

During the meeting, the Board reviewed the Fund’s financial position, approved the establishment of 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬, and discussed further growth of the Fund through continued alumni engagement.

As part of FFC’s IMPACT initiative to strengthen industry–academia collaboration, Dr. Mian Muhammad Faheem , Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, completed a three-week externship at FFC’s 𝐆𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐡𝐢 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭, gaining firsthand exposure to large-scale fertilizer manufacturing operations and engaging with engineers and technical professionals across diverse operational areas.🏭

The externship provided a valuable opportunity to bridge academic knowledge with industrial practice, explore real-world engineering challenges, and identify potential areas for future technical collaboration. The experience will contribute to enhancing the relevance of classroom teaching and facilitating knowledge exchange between academia and industry.

The Department appreciates FFC’s commitment to this initiative and the generous time, expertise, and support extended by its management, engineers, and technical staff throughout the externship.

Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, participants explored emerging technologies that can enhance teaching, research, and institutional productivity.
