UET Lahore 501st Syndicate Meeting Approves Annual Budget, Salary and Pension Increases, and Key Development Grants
LAHORE (July 25, 2026): The Syndicate of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore held its 3/2026 (501st) meeting on Saturday, July 25, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor. The meeting was attended by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, elected members of the Syndicate, the Registrar, and representatives from the Higher Education Commission (Islamabad), Higher Education Department, and Finance Department of the Government of Punjab. During the session, comprehensive discussions were held on academic, administrative, and financial matters, leading to several major decisions.
Approval of Annual Budget and Employee Financial Benefits: The Syndicate approved the University’s annual budget for the financial year 2026–27, featuring estimated expenditures of Rs. 8.240 billion against a projected income of Rs. 8.001 billion, as recommended by the Finance and Planning Committee. The meeting approved the payment of 9 months' arrears for ad-hoc relief allowances and pension increases effective from July 1, 2024, as well as the disbursement of salaries under the revised Basic Pay Scales 2026, including the Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2026 and revised pension effective from July 1, 2026, following the adoption of relevant Government of Punjab notifications.
Educational, Research, and Welfare Allocations: To make student stays more comfortable, the budget for repairing and maintaining hostels and academic buildings was increased. Additionally, substantial funds were allocated, including Rs. 180 million for chronic disease medicines for employees, Rs. 80 million for lab upgrades, Rs. 72 million for need-based scholarships, Rs. 150 million for IT equipment, Rs. 125 million for machinery, and Rs. 65 million for new furniture. Furthermore, Rs. 10 million was approved under the Research Commercialization Fund to participate in the SBIR-Punjab Pilot Trust, alongside financial backing for the Faculty Recognition Policy.
New Appointments and Faculty Promotions: Based on Selection Board recommendations, the Syndicate approved the appointment of 22 Assistant Professors, 18 Lecturers, 5 Officers, and 1 Campus Coordinator, which will particularly strengthen computing and other degree programs. Additionally, contract extensions were granted to 20 faculty members and officers based on performance evaluations.
Service Discipline and Strategic Plan: Reviewing disciplinary proceedings under the PEEDA Act 2006, the Syndicate decided the cases of 11 employees and approved issuing show-cause notices to 8 employees based on inquiry committee recommendations. The house also officially approved the UET Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and granted extensions in provisional affiliation to six affiliated colleges.
