Department of Computer Engineering - UOL Department of Computer Engineering offers PEC and HEC accredited program. Our objective is to provide quality education to our students.

The Department of Computer Engineering is a newly established Department under faculty of engineering by The University of Lahore, largest private sector University.The department offers undergraduate BS (Computer Engineering) program. The curriculum formulated by HEC and PEC is followed in our program. The main objective of the department is to provide quality of education in the computing field.

The department believe in the collaboration with the industries to resolve the problems of industries and to bridge the gap between the industrial sector and educational sector. The High-Tech -discovery-based educational laboratories engage freshmen in hands-on learning activities using state-of-the-art technology products. The laboratory creates an exciting problem-solving environment where engineering skills including circuit analysis and designing,programming, data analysis, real-time instrument control and project planning are mastered.

Tackling the class imbalance problem โš–๏ธ in intrusion detectionโ€”especially for rare cyber-attack types ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ.

๐Ÿ’ก Key Techniques Used:
๐Ÿง  LSTM โ†’ Capturing temporal patterns in network traffic
๐Ÿ”„ SMOTE โ†’ Oversampling minority classes for to handle class imbalance
๐ŸŽฏ Categorical Focal Cross-Entropy Loss โ†’ Prioritizing hard-to-classify cases

๐Ÿ“Š Major Findings:
The combination of SMOTE + Focal Loss dramatically improved minority attack detection on both KDD99 and CICIDS2017 datasets ๐Ÿ“ˆ, outperforming existing methods and demonstrating robust detection of network intrusions.
