Four different ways of measuring whether AI actually gives educators their time back, and why they do not agree. A national US survey of 2,232 teachers reports that weekly AI users save an average of 5.9 hours a week, the equivalent of six weeks across a school year. The only randomized controlled trial built to test a narrower version of the same claim found a real effect, but a smaller and more specific one: a 31 percent cut in time spent on lesson planning, and nothing claimed beyond that one task....

Humans Don’t Have an 8-Second Attention Span. A 2023 Meta-Analysis Found a Smaller Effect, Concentrated Mostly on Memory.

The claim that human attention span has fallen to eight seconds, one second shorter than a goldfish, did not come from any study that measured either figure. Microsoft Canada's own 2015 report does contain both numbers, but on a single infographic slide crediting a third-party website, not Microsoft's own research. In 2023, Stanford researchers ran 91 human-written TOEFL essays, genuine coursework from non-native English speakers, through seven widely used AI detectors. On average, the detectors classified 61.22% of these essays as AI-generated. The same detectors were "near-perfect" on essays written by US-born eighth-graders (Liang et al., 2023, as reported by Myers, 2023, Stanford HAI). Put plainly: the single biggest predictor of whether a detector called a student's own writing "AI" was not whether AI wrote it....

1 in 277 Papers Published in 2026 Cites a Source That Does Not Exist

A citation audit published in The Lancet in May 2026 found that one in every 277 papers indexed on PubMed during the first seven weeks of the year referenced a source that does not exist. Two years earlier, the same rate was one in 2,828. The team, led by Maxim Topaz of Columbia University's Data Science Institute, checked 97.1 million references across nearly 2.5 million papers and located 4,046 fabricated citations in 2,810 papers: invented authors, plausible sounding titles, and journal formatting convincing enough to pass most reviewers unnoticed....

AACSB Just Made “Digital Agility” an Accreditation Requirement. NBEAC’s Standards Still Mention AI Once, as a Plagiarism Tool.

Dr. Asad Shahjehan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Sciences at Hazara University, Mansehra, and serves as NBEAC Focal Person and Coordinator of Postgraduate Programs at his institution. On 20 April 2026, the global membership of AACSB International formally ratified a new set of Global Standards for Business Education at its annual conference in Seattle. Buried inside Standard 4, the one governing curriculum, is a single new clause: Standard 4.3, on "digital agility." For the first time, an AACSB-accredited business school will have to show, with documented evidence, that its graduates can use emerging technologies including AI responsibly and critically, not simply that the school offers a course on the subject....
