๐Ÿš€ UET Mardan Leading the Way: Shaping the Future of Higher Education in KP through AI
๐Ÿ“ Swat | August 22, 2026
When Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's top academic leadership came together to chart the future of higher education, UET Mardan was at the forefront of the conversation.
At the two-day "Leadership Consultation for Curriculum Reforms and Good Governance in KP Higher Education," hosted by the University of Swat and organized by the HED Curriculum Cell in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Cell, our own Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan recognized nationally as an AI Champion by the Planning Commission of Pakistan delivered the keynote address on AI Integration in Higher Education.
โœจ The message was clear: UET Mardan isn't just talking about AI, we're building it.
As Pakistan's declared leading hub for AI and responsible AI integration in HEIs, UET Mardan offers the complete spectrum of AI education from BS to PhD alongside hands-on training for students, faculty, staff, and university leadership alike.
๐ŸŽฏ Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan's vision for responsible AI adoption centered on:
1. Smarter, AI-supported teaching and learning
2. Stronger knowledge transfer and academic engagement
3. Transparent, outcome-aligned assessment systems
4. Universities as engines of innovation and employability
5. Ethical governance and risk-aware policy frameworks
His core message resonated across the room: AI in education must be purposeful, ethical, and institutionally grounded not adopted for its own sake, but to genuinely transform how we teach, learn, and prepare graduates for tomorrow.
The consultation joined by senior officials from HED, HEC's Executive Director, vice chancellors, and academic leaders from across the province also explored Internationalization, Outcome-Based Education, and Financial Sustainability in Higher Education.
Closing the event, the Executive Director HEC reaffirmed commitment to institutional autonomy, self-sustainability, and full support for reform implementation across KP's HEIs.

๐Ÿ“š HEC-NAHE Mentorship Program | Phase-I
As part of the HEC Mentorship Program, an initiative of the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, a productive mentorship session was mentored by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Professor & Chairman, Department of Computer Science, UET Mardan, on professional development and workplace excellence.
The session brought together mentees from various academic and administrative areas, including Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Civil Engineering.

The session focused on โ€œWorkplace Behaviourโ€, with meaningful discussions on professionalism, effective communication, ethical conduct, collaboration, respect, responsibility, and creating a positive work environment.

A key message of the session was that professional reputation takes years to build but can be damaged in moments.
The Ultimate Test of Professionalism is
โ€œYour behavior when nobody is watching defines your professionalism.โ€

UET Mardan appreciates the efforts of NAHE-HEC in providing this valuable platform and remains committed to fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, integrity, and excellence.

Together, let us continue to learn, grow, and build a stronger professional culture at UET Mardan.

Special Meeting of UET Mardan Leadership with Chairman PEC on transformation of engineering excellence an AI-Driven entrepreneurial Transformation

UET Mardan is building a new future for engineering educationโ€”one where students donโ€™t just seek jobs, but learn how to create them.
On behalf of this vision, Prof. Dr. Gul Muhammad Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan, met with Engr. Waseem Nazeer, Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). The strategic discussion focused on transforming how engineering is taught, researched, and translated into real-world impactโ€”through engineering excellence, Artificial Intelligence, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The meeting brought together key academic and research leadership, including the Director ORIC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman, Chairman Department of Computer Science, and Prof. Dr. Ibrar Ali Shah, Chairman Department of Computer Software Engineering. Together, they explored initiatives that strengthen Pakistanโ€™s engineering ecosystem and deepen collaboration between industry, academia, and professional networks.
PEC assigned UET Mardan several forward-looking initiatives designed to elevate engineering outcomes at scale. These include the development of a comprehensive framework for a database of engineering graduates and professionalsโ€”enabling stronger engagement, networking, and continuous professional development. Just as importantly, the collaboration emphasizes integrating Artificial Intelligence across engineering disciplines, ensuring that future engineers are equipped with emerging technological competencies and that engineering education remains relevant in the fast-evolving digital era.
A critical part of the dialogue also centered on aligning engineering programs with national priorities such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate-change imperatives. The shared intent is clear: engineering education and research must effectively address both local and global challenges through practical, solution-driven learning.
Most notably, UET Mardan has been tasked with developing a concept note to transform engineering students from job seekers into job creators. This transformation is grounded in entrepreneurship, innovation, startups, and technology-driven solutionsโ€”preparing graduates not only to enter the workforce, but to build ventures and create opportunities for others.
UET Mardan remains committed to continued collaboration with PECโ€”working together on high-impact initiatives that will accelerate innovation, strengthen professional readiness, and empower engineers to lead the transformation of Pakistanโ€™s engineering future.
