A productive and insightful meeting was held with Dr. Rabia Aslam, Professor, Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies, Quaid-i-Azam University, and Ms. Shagufta Niaz, BS Coordinator, with Quart Mudasar, Representative of Thar Education Alliance (TEA).

The meeting focused on the work and initiatives of Thar Education Alliance, particularly in the areas of education, children’s participation, leadership, girls’ education and gender-responsive education.
We discussed the strong connection between Gender Studies and Education and explored potential areas of collaboration between TEA and the Centre of Excellence in Gender Studies, including joint research, field-based learning, seminars, capacity building, publications and policy dialogue.

A key area of discussion was how TEA’s field experience and Children’s Parliament can complement the Centre’s academic and research expertise, connecting research with real-world practice and policy impact.
Looking forward to building meaningful academic and institutional collaboration for inclusive, equitable and quality education.

The Power of Seeing Someone Go First

The woman (MPA Dr. Fauzia Hameed) at the microphone is speaking.
But the story of this photograph may not be about her.
Look at the girl sitting beside her. She's a member of Sindh Children & Adolescents Parliament on RTE.

She is listening with a kind of attention that is easy to miss. She is not looking at the camera. She is looking at the woman standing before the Assembly; watching her speak, watching her take her place, watching her occupy a space where decisions are made and voices are heard.

Perhaps she is simply listening.
Or perhaps, somewhere in that quiet gaze, she is imagining herself there.
That is the power of seeing someone go first.
For generations, young girls have grown up hearing that certain rooms are not meant for them, that certain seats belong to others, that leadership is something to admire from a distance.

But then, one day, they see a woman stand up and speak.
And something changes. Not necessarily in the room.
Yet inside them.

This photograph captures that quiet moment when inspiration needs no applause, no speech and no introduction.

A woman raising her voice at such decision-making platform.
A Little girl with eyes full of dreams and aspirations is watching.
And perhaps years from now, she will be the one standing at that microphone; while another young girl watches her and quietly thinks:

“Maybe I can do it too.”

Because sometimes, the beginning of a future leader is simply a girl seeing, for the first time, that a place she imagined from afar could also be hers.

Today, the Thar Education Alliance (TEA) team distributed STEAM Learning Kits to students at Government Girls High Schools in Chachro and Chelhar Distrcit Tharparkar Sindh.

These kits will provide girls students with an opportunity to design and build their own creative models and present them at our upcoming STEAM Summer Camp, activity showcasing their creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and practical learning skills.

This activity is part of the “Empowering Girls Through STEAM Education in Sindh” project, funded by HBL Foundation and implemented by Thar Education Alliance. The project aims to empower girls by promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education and encouraging them to become confident innovators and problem-solvers of the future.

Mock Session at the Provincial Assembly of Sindh | 13 August

A meaningful and empowering Mock Session was held at the Provincial Assembly of Sindh on 13 August as a practice session for the 14 August proceedings. The session provided children with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with parliamentary procedures and strengthen their confidence in public speaking.

The session was conducted under the supervision of Media Coordinator to the Honorable Speaker, Mr. Bhevish Kumar, and Pro Speaker Mr. Asad Ali. The Speaker’s team guided the children on speech delivery, parliamentary decorum, effective communication, and confidently presenting their views on the Assembly floor.

This practice session played an important role in preparing the young parliamentarians for the 14 August proceedings while fostering leadership, civic awareness, and meaningful child participation.
