Department of Zoology at Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib organized a seminar on Paleontology titled "Uncovering Life's Past, Understanding Our Future" as part of study tour to the Siwalik Hills and Kallar Kahar.
The seminar aimed to provide students with scientific insight into paleontological research, fossil history, and the geological significance of the Siwalik region before their field visit.
The session featured distinguished resource persons, including Sergi Lopez-Torres, Assistant Professor from Poland; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhtar, former Chairman, Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab; and Dr. Khizar Samiullah, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, Ghazi University.
During the seminar, the speakers delivered detailed presentations on paleontology, the geological formation of the Siwalik Hills, and the historical significance of Siwalik mammalian fauna. They also highlighted the importance of fossil studies in understanding evolutionary history, biodiversity, and environmental changes over time.
The event was attended by Mubashar Tariq, Registrar of the university; Prof. Dr. Kafeel Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology; Prof. Dr. Azhar Rasul, Chairperson of the Department of Zoology; faculty members; and a large number of students.
The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion session, where students engaged with the experts on topics related to paleontological research and field studies. The organizers noted that such academic activities provide students with valuable exposure to scientific research and practical learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
