Department of Zoology at Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib organized a seminar on Paleontology titled "Uncovering Life's Past, Understanding Our Future" as part of study tour to the Siwalik Hills and Kallar Kahar.

The seminar aimed to provide students with scientific insight into paleontological research, fossil history, and the geological significance of the Siwalik region before their field visit.

The session featured distinguished resource persons, including Sergi Lopez-Torres, Assistant Professor from Poland; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhtar, former Chairman, Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab; and Dr. Khizar Samiullah, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, Ghazi University.

During the seminar, the speakers delivered detailed presentations on paleontology, the geological formation of the Siwalik Hills, and the historical significance of Siwalik mammalian fauna. They also highlighted the importance of fossil studies in understanding evolutionary history, biodiversity, and environmental changes over time.

The event was attended by Mubashar Tariq, Registrar of the university; Prof. Dr. Kafeel Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology; Prof. Dr. Azhar Rasul, Chairperson of the Department of Zoology; faculty members; and a large number of students.

The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion session, where students engaged with the experts on topics related to paleontological research and field studies. The organizers noted that such academic activities provide students with valuable exposure to scientific research and practical learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib organized the oath-taking ceremony of the BGNU Zoological Society through its Department of Zoology, formally inducting the newly elected office-bearers of the society.

The ceremony was held to encourage student leadership, academic engagement, and active participation in co-curricular activities related to the discipline of zoology and biological sciences.

Prof. Dr. Kafeel Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, administered the oath to the newly elected members of the society. Addressing the participants, he encouraged students to uphold the values of responsibility, teamwork, discipline, and academic excellence while performing their roles within the society.

The ceremony was attended by Mubashar Tariq, Registrar of the university; Prof. Dr. Azhar Rasul, Chairperson of the Department of Zoology; faculty members of the department; and a large number of students.

BGNU Launches Bamboo Plantation Drive for Agro Tourism Park

Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib has initiated a bamboo plantation drive for the development of the Baba Guru Nanak Agro Tourism Park, marking another step toward environmental sustainability and green campus development.

The bamboo plants were donated by Al Rehman Nursery Farm as part of collaborative efforts to promote eco-friendly initiatives and sustainable agricultural practices.

The plantation activity was led by Prof. Dr. Shahid Imran, Vice Chancellor of BGNU, who planted bamboo saplings along with Mubashar Tariq, Registrar of the university; Prof. Dr. Kafeel Ahmad, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology; Mahr Kashif Padhyar, Member Syndicate; Dr. Malik Muhammad Akhtar, Controller of Examinations; and Shahid Iqbal, Director Planning and Development.

Administrative officials, faculty members of the Department of Botany, and students of the department also participated in the plantation campaign, reflecting collective enthusiasm toward environmental conservation and sustainable campus initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the importance of promoting green development projects and encouraging environmentally responsible practices within educational institutions. He observed that bamboo plantation not only contributes to environmental sustainability and carbon reduction but also supports the university’s broader vision of developing the Agro Tourism Park as a center for ecological awareness, education, and research.

Prof. Dr. Shahid Imran, Vice Chancellor of Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib, chaired a meeting with heads of teaching departments to review academic priorities, strengthen governance mechanisms, and enhance digital learning practices across teaching departments.

The meeting focused on improving instructional quality, strengthening faculty development initiatives, and promoting capacity-building programs for academic staff. The session focused on creating a more effective and student-centered teaching and learning environment aligned with contemporary higher education standards.

Particular emphasis was placed on equipping students with relevant skills, practical competencies, and professional capabilities required to meet evolving market demands and succeed in competitive career environments. Discussions also focused on the planning and design of final year projects, with the Vice Chancellor stressing the importance of encouraging innovative, problem-solving, and industry-oriented projects that contribute to students’ academic and professional growth.

Prof. Dr. Shahid Imran highlighted the need for academic departments to ensure that final year projects are designed in a way that promotes creativity, research aptitude, teamwork, and practical application of knowledge. He emphasized that meaningful project work can play a significant role in preparing students for future professional and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Mubashar Tariq, Registrar of the university, along with heads of teaching departments, attended the meeting and participated in discussions regarding academic planning and institutional development.
