Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife is one of the largest faculties of UVAS, Lahore, and is unique in applied research, the latest education, and is home to the state-of-the-art developments in the areas of Fisheries, Aquaculture, Wildlife and Ecology. The faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife has developed its research and teaching facilities at C Block, Ravi campus Pattoki with HEC funded projects for

both Wildlife and Ecology (38.728 million) and Fisheries and Aquaculture (39.331 million). Both departments have well equipped labs for investigative studies on various aspects of Fisheries and Aquaculture, like Fish Nutrition and Feeding, Soil and Water Chemistry, Disease diagnosis and Treatment, Ornithology, Herpetology and Mammology. All the 33 fish ponds have been stocked with different fish species i.e. Labeo rohita, Catla catla, Cirrhinus mrigala, Ctenopharngodon idella, Hypophthalmicthys molitrix, Cyprinus carpio, Oreochromis nilotica, Channa marulius and Pangasius spp. at the rate of 800 fish/acre.We have modern fully functional fish hatchery where students work on induced spawning experiments especiallyon most valuable and endangered species. We have several animal enclosures for Wildlife where we have mouflon sheep, blackbuck, Hog dear, variety of pheasants like golden and silver pheasant, peacock, and peafowl, which are available to the students for their research projects. We have five-degree programs three in Fisheries & Aquaculture, (BS Hons., M. Phil and PhD) and two (M. Phil and PhD) in Wildlife & Ecology, classes and practicals are all conducted at C-Block, Ravi Campus. Four new degree programs have been initiated in the discipline of Zoology under the collaboration of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Department of Wildlife and Ecology. UNDERGRADUATE:

Realizing Pakistan’s fisheries and aquaculture sector’s tremendous potential, the PM IK-led regime leaped forward and announced the biggest-ever investment to rejuvenate this long-neglected sector. Recent recruitments data shows that the fisheries and aquaculture graduates (who must be the most preferred candidates having the most relevant academic and research background) were sidelined and trampled by Zoology graduates, who might have studied very few courses related to fisheries and aquaculture science. Since they (Zoology degree holders) are given preference as per advertisements, the most preferred degree programs are BS and M.Phil Zoology. It is like hiring a non-professional for a professional and technically demanding job.
Considering the critical role of appropriate hiring of professionally trained fisheries and aquaculture graduates, it is high time to mend the old laws limiting the imperative recruitments in the provincial fisheries departments to lead them to positive contributors to economic growth and poverty alleviation.

The incumbent Pakistani government is acting serious about several financially promising sectors that could revitalize the staggering economy. They presume that the preceding regimes willfully did not strive to preserve and strengthen institutional sanctity by nurturing non-professional and nepotism...

Admissions are Open!

The department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife, UVAS, Lahore is going to reopen admission to the BS Fisheries and Aquaculture degree program. This degree program addresses the needs for sustainable development of the country's fisheries resources and responds to the call for the production of highly trained manpower in this field. Its curriculum is aimed at imparting the students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, develop analytical abilities as a tool toward innovative solutions to fisheries and aquaculture, and exposure to the national and international research and the job market.

This Fisheries and Aquaculture program offers extensive coursework in the major areas in fisheries science and aquaculture. Department is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities and the students have opportunities to conduct independent research on addressing the latest technologies in fisheries and aquaculture. BS Program offers students hands-on experience in raising valuable and commercially important fish species and enriches them with diverse fisheries' management field experiences. The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) is conducting an online program "Aqua Independence Week Pakistan. The other collaborators include Alltech Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, Department of Zoology, GC University, and Pakistan Fisheries Society. This is an International online symposium covering a series of lectures and presentations on Fisheries and Aquaculture status and future prospects in Pakistan. This is going to be aligned with the Independence Day Celebrations 2020. The event is planned to be broadcasted for consecutive three days from 12 to 14 August during 03:00 - 05:00 pm. Dean Faculty of Fisheries and Wildlife Prof. Noor Khan is also going to share his valuable research. Ex-Dean FFW, UVAS, and Retired VC GCWU, Faisalabad Prof. Dr. Naureen Aziz Qureshi Sahiba will be chairing the second-day session. Present and ex-VC UVAS will also grace the occasion. Scientists, farmers, industrialists, researchers, academicians and professors from Pakistan and abroad are participating in this event via online meeting.
