Energy & Power Department was established in November 2008. Before establishment of this Department, Power Sector was part of Irrigation Department and it was called as Irrigation & Power Department. The Energy & Power Department is headed by Secretary, Energy & Power who is assisted at Secretariat level by Additional Secretary, Chief Planning Cell and Deputy Secretary (Admin). The Administrative
matters are looked after by Additional Secretary, whereas technical matters are dealt by Planning & Monitoring Cell. All the technical inputs on secretariat level are given by Planning Cell. The Planning Cell under guidance of the Secretary and in consultation with line department prepares the proposals for Annual Development program. The PMC Keep liaison with Federal Government and regarding upcoming projects both in Hydropower and Oil & Gas new Program. PMC also monitors physical and financial progress of the ongoing Hydropower projects. Execution of the Power sector projects and its operation after completion is carried out by PHYDO, Previously(SHYDO). There are three attached departments of Energy & Power Department headed by the Secretary Energy & Power, PHYDO and Electric Inspector and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil & Gas Company Limited. Electric Inspector works under Electricity Act 1910. All the disputes between Consumers and PESCO are adjudicated by it.
