SGE introduces you with our Family in the field.
1-Introduction
I am Mudassir Mehmood, did my BS Geological Engineering 2009-2013. I was among the few Students from my session, Secured the job just finishing my Final year exams.
My first job was on a road construction site in Baluchistan. After couple of weeks I got interview call for Bahria Town project in Karachi.I did well in the interview and won the job. After that my good time started . While job was going well but I was not satisfied with my skills, so I decided to start MS in Geotechnical Engineering from NED Uni.
I’m still working on Bahria town project and my MS Geotechnical Engineering is almost done because I’m in the final year (Feeling Blessed).
2-How does it feel to be a Geological Engineer?
Well, to be honest it was not by choice. I was not happy in the start but now I regret my feeling at that time, especially when I’m among the few got the job just after the graduation. currently never felt that we are any less than any other discipline of engineering. The department was quite new when I started and there were bit of uncertainties what will happen in future and but now everyone knows that geo-engineers are playing a vital role in different companies in Pakistan and abroad, which should give you people some level of confidence.
3-Share your field experience!
Well, It’s almost 3years in field. There were many ups and downs I faced in the start. The Main Problem was; no one knows that Geological Engineers Exists. So, it was really an embracing thing to convince the people. But at the end hard work pays off and by the Grace of God I’m happy with my current role.
Currently, I am managing all the onsite and offsite field material testing.
4-Any message for Geological Engineers of BUITEMS ?
I would like to thank you to give me a chance to express my thoughts. I know most of you may be curious about Electrical/mechanical engineering etc, looking back I am sure you don’t regret any of it. Concentrate on your studies, you have much better facilities in department now. One thing lacking in the department is limited contacts with the industry which you people need to think about. This is a very vast field, start exploring its different aspects and I wish you all a very good future. Without a doubt, you will continue to have success in all areas!
