Dr. Adnan Ahmed Rafique formally assumed charge as Director, Student Facilitation & Coordination (DSFC), University of Poonch Rawalakot.

A brief handing-over and taking-over ceremony was held at the DSFC Office, where the outgoing Director, Dr. Jawad Zareen, officially transferred the responsibilities of the office. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Director Students Affairs (DSA) and faculty Assistant Directors Students Affairs (ADSAs).

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Adnan Ahmed Rafique appreciated the valuable services and contributions of Dr. Jawad Zareen towards student welfare and institutional development. Dr. Jawad Zareen congratulated Dr. Adnan on assuming the responsibility and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure.

The participants expressed confidence that under Dr. Adnan’s leadership, the Directorate will continue to strengthen student support services and further enhance student engagement across the university.

Dr. Kh. Shafique Ahmad, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Botany, represented the University of Poonch Rawalakot as an Invited Speaker at the International Conference and Expo on Life Sciences (ICELS 2026) held at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University.

The conference brought together renowned researchers, scientists, and academicians from around the world to discuss emerging trends and innovations in life sciences and interdisciplinary research.

During the conference, Dr. Shafique Ahmad delivered an invited talk on “Plant Resilience in Changing Climate”, highlighting the significance of sustainable scientific approaches to address climate-related challenges. He also chaired a technical session, reflecting his academic excellence and recognition within the scientific community.

In recognition of his valuable scholarly contributions, Dr. Ahmad was honoured with the Guest of Honour Shield by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akmal, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation, and Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari, Vice Chancellor, Federal Urdu University.

Faculty members and senior administration officials from the University of Poonch Rawalakot participated in the “National Security & Strategic Leadership Workshop – 2026” organized by ISPR in Muzaffarabad. The workshop brought together Vice Chancellors, Registrars, Deans, and senior academicians from more than 200 universities across Pakistan to deliberate on national security, strategic leadership, regional challenges, and the role of academia in promoting national cohesion.

The participants from UPR included Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Z***ria Z***r, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rauf Khan (Dean, Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences), Prof. Dr. Imran Hayat (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences), Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed (Dean, Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences), Prof. Dr. Shahid Iqbal Awan (Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences), Dr. Gul-e-Raina Ijaz (Assistant Professor, Horticulture), and Dr. Aamir Jahangir.

During a special session, retired Lieutenant General Amir Riaz highlighted emerging regional and global security challenges and stressed the importance of strategic awareness, national unity, and informed leadership in addressing contemporary issues.

During the course of the workshop, the participants also interacted with Director General ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, and exchanged views on contemporary national and regional matters.

Dr. Umer Ayyaz Aslam Sheikh from the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture, represented the University of Poonch Rawalakot as a Keynote Speaker at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) on the occasion of World Bee Day.

The keynote session brought together researchers, scientists, academicians, and agricultural professionals to highlight the vital role of bees in biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, food security, and ecosystem stability.

During the session, discussions focused on the growing environmental challenges faced by pollinators worldwide, including climate change, habitat loss, pesticide exposure, and declining biodiversity, while emphasizing the need for collective conservation efforts and sustainable beekeeping practices.
