American-Pakistani business tycoon Tanweer Ahmed has made a generous donation of $9 million (over Rs2.5 billion) to Islamabad’s National University of Science & Technology (NUST) to support underprivileged students in accessing quality education through scholarships.

NUST has officially confirmed that Ahmed has forged a partnership with the university by establishing an Endowment Fund for financially disadvantaged students. This initiative is expected to benefit nearly 200 students annually, providing them with valuable scholarship opportunities. The $9 million contribution stands as one of the most substantial donations by an overseas Pakistani to any university in Pakistan.

In an interview with Geo News, Ahmed shared his plans to extend this scholarship program to other universities in addition to making it a permanent fixture at NUST. A formal ceremony is scheduled to take place at NUST Islamabad next month, with the participation of top Pakistani leaders, to officially launch the scholarship program.

The Houston-based businessman emphasized that deserving students will be awarded scholarships annually through the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The selection process for scholarships will be purely merit-based, targeting students who face financial constraints in accessing quality and expensive education.
