College of Aeronautical Engineering (NUST)

College of Aeronautical Engineering (NUST) CAE is a well established teaching institution of Aeronautical Engineering which offers undergraduat

The College of Aeronautical Engineering came into being after independence when an acute shortage of technical maintenance officers was felt in the PAF. In order to meet the immediate requirements of the engineering officers, a plan to establish an Aeronautical Engineering College was mooted and speedily implemented. The College was initially established at Korangi Creek, Karachi in 1965. In 1986,

the College was shifted from Korangi Creek to PAF Academy, Risalpur. The Aviation Cadets of Engineering Branch go through 4 years training in the College of Aeronautical Engineering (2 years as Commissioned officer) after which they get their BE degree in Aerospace or Avionics disciplines. At CAE, the Aviation Cadets go through a system of education on the lines of United States Air Force Institute of Technology. The College is known not only for its excellent academic training but also for its well-designed leadership training programs. Its graduates today lead most of the aerospace related departments of PAF, Pak Army, Pak Navy, PIA and other civilian sectors.

Meet team SAF SHIKAN from CAE, NUST, which participated in the International Space Science and Scientific Payload competition. They competed with teams from all across the world and were able to make their way into the final contest, to be held in China, along with 14 other international teams, Alhamdulillah. They will be the sole team representing Pakistan in the contest this November.

The competition is to be hosted by China in regards to the Tiagong Space Station that is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The main aim of the competition is to spark innovation and interest within students to design experimental payloads for the space borne laboratory.

SAF SHIKAN is working on designing a crawler robot that will be capable of traversing the exterior of the Chinese Space Station. It will help the onboard astronauts in maintaining the structural integrity of the space station by performing inspections on difficult contours and provide a mean to make extravehicular tasks, that are currently expensive and laborious to perform, cheaper and autonomous.

Wishing them the very best.
