One degree can teach you to speak. An English degree teaches you to shape the way the world thinks.

Many students believe that an English degree is only for becoming a teacher. The truth is far bigger.

English is the foundation of communication, leadership, critical thinking, creativity, research, media, diplomacy, artificial intelligence, digital marketing, corporate communication, publishing, civil services, and global opportunities. Every profession values people who can think clearly, communicate confidently, and solve problems intelligently.

When you study English, you don't just read novels or poetry—you learn to analyze ideas, understand human behavior, persuade audiences, conduct research, and communicate with impact. These are the skills employers consistently seek, regardless of industry.

At the Department of English Language & Literature, The University of Lahore – Sargodha Campus, we prepare students not merely for a degree, but for a lifetime of opportunities. Through experienced faculty, research-driven learning, practical communication skills, and a supportive academic environment, we help students become confident professionals who can compete nationally and internationally.

The question is no longer:

"What can I do with an English degree?"

The real question is:

"What can I not do when I can think critically, communicate effectively, and lead with confidence?"

Your future is built by the skills you develop today. Let English become your strongest advantage.

📚 Book of the Week | 1984 by George Orwell

Some books entertain you. Others change the way you see the world. 1984 does both.

What happens when every word you speak is monitored? When history is rewritten to suit those in power? When people begin to fear their own thoughts?

George Orwell's 1984 is not merely a novel about a fictional dictatorship—it is a profound exploration of truth, language, freedom, surveillance, and the fragile nature of human individuality. Every chapter leaves readers questioning the society around them and the value of independent thought.

If you are studying English Literature, this is more than a recommended book—it is an essential reading experience. Behind the famous phrase "Big Brother is Watching You" lies a story that has influenced politics, media, literature, and popular culture for decades.

Read it carefully, and you may discover that Orwell was writing not only about the future—but about us.

📖 Have you read 1984? Without giving away spoilers, share in one sentence the moment or idea that stayed with you the longest.

🌿 Quote of the Day | Sylvia Plath

Some words do more than inspire—they awaken something within us.

Sylvia Plath reminds us that true love, hope, and growth have the power to transform lives, just as spring transforms barren trees into blossoms. Great literature doesn't simply tell stories; it teaches us to feel more deeply, think more critically, and see beauty where others see ordinary.

At the Department of English Language & Literature, The University of Lahore, Sargodha Campus, we believe every page you read has the potential to change the person you become.

📚 Read great writers. Think beyond limits. Grow beyond expectations.

🌟 OUR PROUD ALUMNI | ZEESHAN AKRAM JASRA

Success is never an accident—it is built through knowledge, perseverance, and the courage to keep moving forward.

Today, the Department of English Language & Literature, The University of Lahore, Sargodha Campus, proudly celebrates one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Zeeshan Akram Jasra

After completing his MPhil in Linguistics from our department, he began his academic journey as a Lecturer (BS-17) at Government College Jauharabad, where he inspired countless students through his dedication to teaching and scholarship. His commitment to excellence later earned him a position as Lecturer (BS-18) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI)—one of Pakistan's leading higher education institutions.

His passion extends far beyond the classroom. As the Founder of the Pakistan Association of Phonetics & Phonology Scholars (PAPPS), he has created a platform that connects researchers, promotes collaboration, and strengthens the study of phonetics and phonology across Pakistan. His work demonstrates how one person's vision can help shape an entire academic community.

What makes Mr. Zeeshan Akram Jasra truly remarkable is not only his professional success, but also his willingness to mentor, motivate, and encourage young scholars to pursue research with confidence and purpose. His journey reminds us that every lecture attended, every research paper written, and every challenge overcome can become the foundation of an extraordinary career.

At the Department of English Language & Literature, we do not simply award degrees—we strive to nurture educators, researchers, innovators, and future academic leaders.

Your journey could be the next success story we celebrate.

📚 Study where inspiration meets opportunity. Learn from experienced faculty. Build a future that reaches beyond borders.

📚 HISTORY CORNER | VIRGINIA WOOLF

Can a mind that changes the world also carry invisible pain?

Virginia Woolf revolutionized modern literature with masterpieces such as Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and A Room of One's Own. Her words continue to shape the way we think about identity, memory, creativity, and the human experience.

Yet behind her extraordinary brilliance, Woolf struggled for many years with severe mental illness. During the uncertainty of World War II, fearing another devastating episode, she wrote a final letter to her husband, Leonard Woolf:

"I don't think two people could have been happier than we have been."

Soon afterward, she walked into the River Ouse and drowned.

Her story reminds us that genius does not make a person immune to suffering. It also reminds us to look beyond achievements and recognize the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for those facing mental health challenges.

Virginia Woolf's life ended too soon, but her voice continues to inspire readers, writers, and scholars around the world.

📖 Some books entertain us. Great literature helps us understand humanity—including its strength, its vulnerability, and its resilience.
