University College of Agriculture was established as a constituent college of University of Sargodha under the directive of the President of Pakistan in October, 2005. The project included development of 127 acres of land provided to the University by the Government of Punjab to enhance the students’ research in agriculture and is based on the noble concept that education, research and employment must be strongly and permanently linked with each other. The mission of the college is to produce trained and skilled work force, having a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, capable of employing knowledge inputs for the rapid and sustainable agriculture development of Pakistan. University College of Agriculture comprises the Departments of Agri. Entomology, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Animal Sciences, Forestry, Agricultural Extension, Horticulture, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Plant Pathology and Soil and Environmental Sciences. The institution has employed the services of highly capable faculty graduated from renowned national and international universities. The faculty is actively involved in developing latest agriculture curriculum, teaching methodology and laboratory standards as well as promoting effective research and development activities in college premises. Some of the research projects have been approved and running at the College, while a number of research projects are in pipeline for approval from Higher Education Commission (HEC), Agricultural Linkages Program (ALP) Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB). The college is seeking links and collaborations with renowned national and international sister agricultural research and educational institutions for faculty and student exchange programs, which will further refine the skills and qualifications of the faculty as well as students. The memorandums of understanding have been signed so far by the University College of Agriculture, University of Sargodha with Wisconsin State University, USA, North Carolina State University (NCSU) College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Raleigh USA, Keyplex, USA, Lyallpur Chemicals & fertilizers (Pvt) Ltd, Jarranwalla, Pakistan, Wahdat Protein Enterprises, Sargodha, Pakistan and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), UK. A number of MOU’s are in pipelines. University College of Agriculture is the centre of Pakistan Agricultural Scientist Society (PASS) which is publishing biannual, HEC recognized, International Journal of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (IJAAS; ISSN-2072-8409) and regular monthly magazine “DOAAB”. A veterinary clinic has also been established at the college to facilitate the local livestock farmers. A tissue culture lab has recently been started at the college to produce disease-free planting material. Wheat sowing campaign, Kissan Mela / Harvesting ceremony / National wheat conferences, Annual Sports Gala, Annual dinner, student debates competitions, inter-tutorial group competitions, internship programs and study tours are the regular features of the college. The College has also initiated out-reach program for establishing linkages between the local farming community and the researchers of the College to solve the problems of the farmers at their doorstep. Research laboratories at the College are being equipped with the modern equipments, which will enhance the research and educational activities in the College. An efficient Computer laboratory has also been established and the College has been linked with computer network as well as internet facilities.
