The University of Turbat is a multidisciplinary public sector general university, chartered by the government of Balochistan in 2012. It remained a Sub-Campus of the University of Balochistan from 2009 up to 2012 with three teaching departments starting in a rented building. The Sub-Campus of Balochistan University was upgraded into a full-fledged university in 2013 as the University of Turbat and
recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in March 2014. The first phase of civil work on the university’s project was completed in a record period and the civil work on the second phase is in progress. The academic activities were shifted from a rented building to its permanent building in October 2017. Now the university has 4 faculties and 12 departments including one institute namely the Institute of Balochi Language and Culture on the main campus, four departments on its sub-campus at Panjgur, and a Faculty of Law situated in the main city of Turbat. Around 200 highly qualified faculty members and admin staff including 25 PhDs are making their utmost efforts in providing research-led quality education to more than 4000 students who come from across Balochistan in this rapidly rising university. The university comprises all facilities for learning including academic blocks, well-equipped labs, multipurpose hall, cafeteria, student facilitation center, admin block, hostels, residential colony, sports complex, mosque, model school, botanical garden, standby powerhouses, load-shedding-free university feeder, and other components. The University has accomplished many achievements in a short span of time; therefore, it got a distinguished place among the best rising universities in the country. The University organizes seminars, workshops, training sessions, international lecture series, certification courses, business galas, sports festivals, study tours, and exposure visits for students on regular basis. The University organized its 1st graduation ceremony on 8th March 2017 while the 2nd Graduation Ceremony was held on 22nd April 2019. A good number of graduates of the University are serving in different departments of public and private sectors in Balochistan and other parts of the country. Around 50 faculty members and scholars have been sent to different universities in Pakistan and abroad for doing MS and PhD. under the Human Resource Development Program, Aghaz e Haqooq Balochistan and other HEC scholarship schemes. Some of them, after completion of their studies, have re-joined the University, and the rest of them are expected to rejoin the University in due course of time. The University has been conducting the meetings of its statuary bodies in due course of time. The university has established its two sub-campuses in Gwadar and Panjgur in a short span of time. The academic activities in the Gwadar campus were started in 2017 while the academic activities in the Pajngur campus were started in 2020. The Gwadar Campus of the University of Turbat was converted into a full-fledged university like the University of Gwadar in October 2021. Earnest efforts are consistently being made to promote vibrant research culture and provide a favorable environment to both its faculty members and students for exploration and innovation. Research activities got more momentum in university after starting M.Phil./MS programs in the IBLC, Chemistry, and Management Sciences Departments. The University launched its very first annual research journal GIDROSHIA for this specific purpose while IBLC has also initiated its research journal (MEERI) duly recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The ORIC incorporates all research activities from the development of research proposals to the commercialization of research products through strengthening academia-industry linkages. It provides strategic and operational support to its faculty members and students in preparing, submitting, and presenting research proposals. The Directorate of I.T is the backbone of the university which provides Wifi and other I.T services to students and its employees. The availability of I.T facilities enhanced the university’s crisis management functions like managing online classes and distant e-learning during the COVID-19 outbreak. The QEC is committed to assuring and enhancing the quality of higher education at the University of Turbat with respect to good teaching strategies, sound infrastructure, outcome-based education, positive student perception, valid program assessment tools, and a learning environment conducive to research activities. The Financial Aid Office is facilitating talented and less privileged students for grants of scholarships to the students on merit and needs bases. The Financial Aid Office through a sincere commitment to all students is striving to eliminate financial barriers to acquiring higher education by providing them financial assistance through various scholarship schemes. The University, through the Directorate of Public Relations and linkages, has signed a number of MOUs with leading national and international universities and research institutions for the exchange of research skills, knowledge, and expertise. Under the patronage of Governor Balochistan, the Federal and Provincial Government, HEC, and the vibrant leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad. Many ideas and projects are in pipeline as the part of the short and long-term strategic plan of the University. Transforming university into automation, solarization, introducing new science and market-oriented programs, sending more faculty members abroad for higher studies, training and refreshment courses, starting more MS and Ph.D. programs, Chinese, English, and Balochi language courses, hosting national and international conferences, enhancing digital connectivity, establishing IT park, setting up incubation center, launching housing scheme for its employees, setting up constituent Model Higher Secondary School and generating revenue by its own resources are among the main mission of future roadmap of the University. https://uot.edu.pk/
