Teaching Through Charts & the “Tree of Knowledge”
IBA Public School UBAURO continues to promote innovative, engaging, and student-centred teaching practices that make classroom learning meaningful and memorable.
As part of an Islamic Studies lesson on “The Battle of Badr,” an innovative “Tree of Knowledge” strategy was employed to help students understand and retain key historical facts in a creative manner. A large tree-shaped chart was displayed in the classroom, with each leaf highlighting an important aspect of the Battle of Badr, including its date, location, number of Muslims and Quraysh, Allah Almighty’s help through the angels, and the important lessons derived from the battle.
The students also demonstrated their learning by preparing individual charts, diagrams, and structured notes in their notebooks. These were subsequently presented and discussed in the classroom, providing students with an opportunity to express their understanding, strengthen their communication skills, and learn collaboratively.
The activity generated enthusiastic participation, keen interest, and active engagement among the students. Such creative pedagogical approaches not only enhance conceptual understanding but also encourage students to connect knowledge with visual representation and meaningful learning experiences.
