Department of Environmental Sciences COMSATS University Vehari Campus in collaboration with EPA, Vehari celebrated World Earth Day on 22 April at Campus with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

The celebration began with an awareness seminar, where different Speakers (Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Dr. Faiz Rabbani, Muhammad Idrees and Prof. Dr. M. Shahid) highlighted the history and significance of Earth Day and discussed pressing environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, and deforestation. They emphasized the role of youth in preserving natural resources and encouraged participants to adopt sustainable lifestyles.

Following the seminar, a poster display was arranged by students creatively illustrating environmental challenges and offered innovative solutions to address them.

An awareness walk was then conducted within the campus. Students, faculty, and staff actively participated, carrying banners and chanting slogans to promote environmental protection and community responsibility.

The highlight of the event was the tree plantation drive, during which 500 saplings, donated by SIMTA food, were planted across the campus. This initiative demonstrated a practical commitment to improving the environment and contributing to a greener future. A large number of students and ES faculty participated in the celebrations.

Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Associate Professor at Dept. Of Environmental Scienes, participated as an invited Resource Person in a specialized training program organized by the Regional Agricultural Extension and Development Centre (READC), Vehari, for Agri-Officers and Assistant Directors from various agricultural departments of Punjab. The training aimed to enhance the professional capacity of field officers in addressing emerging environmental challenges affecting the agricultural sector.

Dr. Shah delivered comprehensive sessions on two important themes: (1) Environmental Pollution and Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Associate Professor at Dept. Of Environmental Scienes, participated as an invited Resource Person in a specialized training program organized by the Regional Agricultural Extension and Development Centre (READC), Vehari, for Agri-Officers and Assistant Directors from various agricultural departments of Punjab. Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences COMSATS University Vehari Campus participated as an invited resource person in a training program for Agri-Officers of Punjab organized by the Regional Agricultural Extension Development Center (RAEDC), Vehari. The training focused on the theme “Smog and Agriculture: How Pollution Affects Crops and Food Security, aiming to enhance the technical understanding of field officers regarding emerging environmental challenges to agriculture.

During his session, Dr. Shah delivered a comprehensive presentation on the causes and composition of smog, its physiological and biochemical impacts on major crops, and the consequent implications for yield, quality, and food security. He highlighted practical mitigation and adaptation strategies, including improved agronomic practices, crop selection, and advisory measures for farmers during high-smog periods. The session was interactive, with active participation from Agri-Officers, and concluded with a productive discussion on translating scientific insights into field-level recommendations. The organizers appreciated Dr. Shah’s expert contribution, which significantly enriched the training outcomes.

Recruitment of Inspectors by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab

Graduates of the Department of Environmental Sciences have achieved outstanding success in the recent recruitment of Inspectors by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab. Out of 37 candidates selected across the province, 12 candidates secured Inspector positions while one candidate was placed on the waiting list. This achievement reflects the strong academic standards, practical training and professional preparation of the department.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Shahid (Director) and Dr. Faiz Rabbani, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences extend their sincere congratulations to all selected graduates with special recognition of the following candidates:
