EUNIVERSITY ( ) was born as a spin-off from the Centro Studi "Media Culture Società", part of the Department of Political and Social Studies (University of Salerno, , Italy).
Now we present the Gender Equality Plan ( ) of the University of Salerno.
🟠 The UNISA GEP was approved by the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors in March 2019. It is structured in five target areas, and includes a set of strategic actions whose effective implementation, within a specific time frame (from 2019 to 2022), will be monitored in progress by indicators, and will be subject to external evaluation by members of the International Advisory Board, appointed by the European Commission:
1️⃣ Affirmation of the gender perspective in research and teaching;
2️⃣ Strengthening of work-family reconciliation measures;
3️⃣ Introduction of the correct use of gender language;
4️⃣ Dissemination of gender culture in the University of Salerno;
5️⃣ Reducing the gender gap in decision-making bodies.
🟠 The Gender Balance Sheet (GB), a very important reporting tool for gender mainstreaming in an organization and a means of affirming and communicating the culture of equality and equal opportunities, is related to it.
The strategic path undertaken by UNISA regarding the Gender Balance Sheet aims not only to highlight the cultural changes taking place, but is aimed, above all, at mitigating the differences between men and women in terms of needs, conditions, pathways, opportunities in life, work and participation in decision-making processes, as well as to demonstrate that policies are not gender-neutral but, on the contrary, result in a differentiated impact on men and women.
In general, the data collected highlights the existence of cultural and structural obstacles that lead to mildly critical situations, especially in top positions and positions reserved exclusively for one gender.
🟠 It should be highlighted the close relationship that exists between the two accountability tools, which UNISA has chosen to adopt, that is between the gender balance sheet and the social balance sheet: the GB can be considered as a complementary document to the social balance sheet, which, pursuing the objective of a policy of effective equality between men and women, supplements the balance sheet with the analysis of the gender variable.
🟠 The drafting of the Gender Balance Sheet is a real act of responsibility to the various stakeholders who participate in life at the University and is a starting point for the analysis of the current situation and in the coming years will be a tool for evaluating the choices and commitments to be made in the University, and it will be interesting to place alongside the context analysis the actions, the "political" and cultural responses.
