Postdoc position In the Department of Forest Resources Management, Faculty of Forestry, University of Agriculture in Krakow
Terms of employment:
Full-time Post-Doc position.
Employment for a period of 15 months in the National Science Center grant (2021/41/B/ ST10/04113, "Assessment of the impact of meteorological conditions on the health of forests and disturbances in forests on a regional and national scale based on the integration of terrestrial data with data from satellite systems Earth Observation").
The gross salary is 10,000 PLN/month
Estimated start of employment: January 1, 2024.
Requrements for canidates:
PhD in forestry sciences, earth sciences or related/
Scientific achievements confirmed by publications in international journals and conference speeches/
The requirements described in the regulations of the OPUS 21 NCN project, including:
• PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the University of Agriculture in Krakow or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at
least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country.
• The principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation.
• At the time of receiving remuneration, they will not be receiving any other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs
• During the period of drawing this remuneration the candidate will not draw remuneration from another employer on the basis of an employment contract, including an employer with headquarters outside Poland
Research interests related to the subject of the project, in particular:
• Kfijnowledge of statistical techniques, machine learning and deep learning
• Ability to work with large data sets (Big Data)
• Knowledge of issues in the field of remote sensing and GIS
• Experience in working in R or Python software and cloud computing software (e.g. Google Earth Engine)
• Knowledge of forest databases and forestry problems
Job description and responsibilities:
• Analysis of the relationship between forest disturbances, forest characteristics, site conditions and weather parameters
• collection and derivation of parameters of stands and site characteristics for case study regions;
• development of the spatial database including information about sanitary cuts resulted from forest dieback;
• development of the predictive model of the probability of disturbances based on weather, site and stand variables through testing different statistical and machine learning methods,
• involvement in the outreach activities,
• dissemination of the project outcomes through presenting the research outcomes at the national /international conferences and writing the scientific publications.
