Today we celebrate 4th December, St. Barbara's Day (Barbórka in polish) - the patron saint of miners and geologists in Poland. It is traditional mining holiday that all professions related to the search for fossil fuels take part in.
The tradition begins with a morning solemn mass in the church or in the guildhouse, next to the statues of St. Barbara. Then the mining orchestra marches, playing its anthem in the miners and their families neighborhoods. Solemn academies and meetings are held. On this day, concerts, artistic performances and balls are also organized with the participation of whole mining families.
There is a common blessing used by miners which is in polish „Szczęść Boże”, it means „God Bless You”.
We are thanking all miners and other people conected with this profession for their devotion!
