🛫 New partnership: Cracow University of Technology and Katowice Airport

Cracow University of Technology has signed a cooperation agreement with Katowice Airport, opening the door to research projects, expert consultations - and hands-on internships for our students.

Researchers from our Chair of Transportation and Logistics Systems adn Doctoral School have already started testing LiDAR technology at the airport to detect foreign object debris (FOD) on runways and taxiways, and are using AI-powered video analysis to assess runway surface quality.

"We evaluate detection effectiveness, localization accuracy, and the potential for automating FOD detection," says Dr. Anton Pashkevich, who leads the research team.

Students in Transport & Logistics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Safety Engineering will get real-world access to airport data, experts, and engineering challenges — straight from Pyrzowice's runways to their diploma theses. ✈️

🏁 Formula Student Alpe Adria 2026 – the first days are behind us!

Our team PK MechPower is in Croatia, at the Bugatti Rimac test track near Zagreb, where around 90 teams from across Europe have gathered to compete.

For our team, these days have been all about teamwork - getting ready for technical inspections and finding our rhythm for this year's competition. More challenges, and even more excitement, are yet to come. Keep your fingers crossed!

Who is PK Mech Power? 🔧 It is a student team from our Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, united by a shared passion for motorsport and automotive engineering. Since 2022, they have been building their skills together while creating a race car for Formula Student competitions- combining engineering knowledge with creativity and a competitive spirit.

📸 WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

Every year on August 19, we celebrate World Photography Day - a day dedicated to the art, craft, and history of capturing the world through a lens. On this very day in 1839 the French government announced the Daguerreotype process and gave it to humanity as a "free gift to the world." Since then, photography has come a long way.

But today we want to celebrate this day a little closer to home.

For nearly 50 years, our university has had its own photographer capturing every chapter of our story - mr Jan Zych. Behind almost every graduation, every ceremony, and every quiet everyday moment on campus, there are photos taken by him. Countless students and staff have passed in front of his lens over the decades, and more to come, hopefully!

If you look closely, you will notice mr Jan himself, reflected in a mirror, camera in his hands, caught in the act, at one of the photos we are sharing today. Usual day in the office for him, but a rare "behind the scenes" glimpse for us!

With his upcoming 50th work anniversary approaching, there's no better moment than World Photography Day to say: thank you, Panie Janie.

The Program for SolMech 2026 Is Now Available!

This September, our university will host scientists and experts in solid mechanics from around the world. The 44th Solid Mechanics Conference - SolMech 2026 will take place on September 7–10 at the Działownia Education and Research Centre.

The program includes plenary lectures, invited keynote talks, and thematic sessions covering the latest research and engineering applications in solid mechanics, with speakers from Poland and international academic institutions.

Organized since 1953 by the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPPT PAN - Instytut Podstawowych Problemów Techniki Polskiej Akademii Nauk), SolMech is one of the longest-running international conference series in the field. This year, it's proudly hosted and co-organized by our university.

🔥 World Never Give Up Day - August 18

Today marks an international awareness day dedicated to resilience, strength, and determination in the face of struggles. It's a global initiative (started back in 2019 by Alain Horoit) built around one simple reminder: never give up. 💪

And honestly, that's exactly what we do every day at AZS Politechnika Krakowska.

At AZS PK, that mindset isn't limited to the field or the gym — it's just as alive on the chessboard. ♟️

And as a club rooted in a technical university, we know this spirit runs deep in our scientists and students too.

So today, we're saluting every athlete, chess player, researcher, and student at CUT who keeps showing up despite the odds. You're proof that "never give up" isn't just a slogan.

Cracow University of Technology is a partner of Reconnecting Landscape, the third edition of IFLA Europe's (International Federation of Landscape Architects) travelling exhibition. The exhibition is curated by Urszula Forczek-Brataniec from the Chair of Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, and our landscape architecture students and PhD candidates played a vital role in bringing it to life.

The exhibition features 66 outstanding landscape architecture projects from 25 countries, contributed by IFLA Europe's member associations. Together, they showcase the diversity and richness of contemporary landscape architecture across Europe, exploring connections across spatial, social, and semantic dimensions.

As Urszula Forczek-Brataniec, Chair of the Working Group, explains, the exhibition is meant to spark dialogue - inspiring meetings and conversations about the role of landscape architecture in reconnecting people, places, and ideas.

📍 The exhibition officially launches during the IFLA Europe Conference in Riga, 2–4 September 2026, then accompanies the General Assembly programme on 5–6 September, before continuing its journey across IFLA Europe member countries and beyond.

🔬 Where science meets business: our labs on Poland's National Research Infrastructure Map

Two Cracow University of Technology facilities — the Malopolska Laboratory of Energy Efficient Construction (MLBE) and the National Coordinate Metrology Network (NSMET) — have been named to Poland's National Research Infrastructure Map, a list of 165 facilities recognized as strategic for the country's science and economy.

🏗️ MLBE is a "living lab": a real building wired with 3,000+ sensors, where interdisciplinary teams test the energy-efficient, smart buildings of tomorrow — under real-world conditions.
